I think it's easy to assume that the resort(s) will have taken measures to keep the gators away from populated areas. The fact that there were no alligator warning signs, adds to that assumption.
Campgrounds here in California post signs warning of mountain lions, which leads to increased diligence while in the area. Gator signs in Florida I think would have the same effect.
