1985 Bears vs. 1993 Lions

One of the tournament favorites against one of the long shots. On paper this game is already over but that is what they play the game. If the Bears win and the Packers win in the next game both teams will have clinched a birth in the next round. We head to the Yale Bowl in New Haven for the game.


1st quarter

**- The Lions start the game on their own 33.
- They are held to a three and out.

**- After the punt he Bears start on their own 24.
- They are held to a three and out.

**- The Lions start on their own 32 after the punt.
- Sanders up the middle for 5 yards. 2nd and 5 at the 37.
- Peete completes a short pass to Perriman for 8 yards. 1st down at the 45.
- Sanders off right tackle, spins to make one man miss and gets across midfield for a 6 yard gain. 2nd and 4 at the Bears 49.
- Peete drops back, looking, floats one deep to Moore, complete and down at the 18 for a 31 yard gain. 1st down at the 18.
- Derrick Moore loses 1 yard. 2nd and 11 at the 19.
- Draw play to Moore for 2 yards. 3rd and 9 at the 17.
- Peete back, looking, fires into the endzone, incomplete. 4th and 9 at the 17.

2nd quarter

**- The Lions start the quarter 2nd and 5 at the Bears 11.
- Sanders gets the ball, he spins, changes direction to the outside but has no room and is broght down for a 1 yard loss. 3rd and 6 at the 12.
- Peete drops back, screen to Sanders but he is hit and dropped immediately for a 2 yard loss. 4th and 8 at the 14.
- Hanson attempts a 31 yard field goal. It's good. The Lions lead 6-0.

**- The Bears start at their own 33 after the kickoff.
- End around to Gault, he is across the 40 and down at the 42 for a 9 yard gain. 2nd and 1 at the 42.
- Incomplete pass. 3rd and 1 at the 42.
- Payton gets the ball and plows ahead for 2 yards. 1st down at the 44.
- Draw play to Payton but he picks up just 2 yards. 2nd and 8 at the 46.
- McMahon hits Moorehead across midfield for 14 yards. 1st down at the Lions 40.
- McMahon back, fires to Suhey, complete to the 30 for 10 yards. 1st down at the 30.
- Play action, McMahon back, has McKinnon deep as the safety bit on the play action, lofts it in his direction, he has it at the 5 and is easily into the endzone, touchdown. The extra point is good and the Bears take a 7-6 lead.

**- The Lions start at their 34 after the kickoff.
- They are held to a three and out.

**- The Bears start on their own 25 after the punt.
- Payton picks up 3 yards. 2nd and 7 at the 28.
- Suhey stopped at the line. 3rd and 7 at the 28.
- McMahon back, in trouble, flips it to Payton out of the backfield, complete and he has some room and gets to the 40 for 12 yards. 1st down at the 40.
- Payton picks up 1 yard. 2nd and 9 at the 41.
- McMahon back, looking, in trouble, fires over the middle to Gault deep, complete and Gault is leveled but hold on for a 24 yard gain. 1st down at the Lions 35.
- Payton up the middle, runs one man over, makes another miss, inside the 30, cuts to the outside, inside the 20 and down at the 17 for an 18 yard gain. 1st down at the 17.
- Delay to Payton, he is through the line, across the 15, stiff arms a would be tackler and throws him down like a rag doll, is inside the 10, makes another man miss, inside the 5, is hit but keeps moving, another tackler tries to bring him down but he drags them both into the endzone, touchdown.
