Leaderless, rudderless... hopeless?

Okay, we need a plan here. I value chemistry, and with this team so heavily branded that way already, I want to keep it up.

Here's the current roster situation, showing scour ratings for a sense of player importance, with manually added chem group (Mo-Mo, Ldr/Pers):

Code:
8-9 49/40 Anthony, Ethan 1198LDE 9 52 52 1 yr. 11-12 35/90 Pearson, Isaac 1190LDE 8 34 34 1 yr. 8-9 54/94 Mealey, Terrell 1191LDE 10 27 27 --- 11-12 100/97 Baxter, Gilbert 1179LDE 7 23 23 --- 8-9 69/14 Helming, Juan 1194RDE 3 77 77 2 yrs. 8-9 95/68 Schneider, Gavin 1197RDE 5 44 44 1 yr. 8-9 71/27 Scott, Justics 1292NT 6 55 55 2 yrs. 11-12 42/15 Stevens, Aaron 1299NT 11 46 46 1 yr. 8-9 28/38 Peterson, Edgar 1351SILB 6 44 44 1 yr. 8-9 49/60 Roybal, Giovanni 1350WILB 4 46 46 2 yrs. 11-12 64/47 May, Chad 1354WILB 9 44 44 2 yrs. 8-9 33/84 Wilkerson, Shane 1345WILB 6 11 11 1 yr. 8-9 36/11 Randolph, Renaldo 1415SLB 12 47 47 --- 11-12 44/23 Schultz, Eddie 1446WLB 7 49 49 1 yr. 11-12 63/71 Harada, George 1453WLB 6 46 46 2 yrs.

Okay... the default plan here is basically: sign DE Baxter, and build around him as our 11-12 leader for the foreseeable future. We probably cut bait on last year's signings (Schultz and Harada) as long as we have patchable talent to play, and we go out and try to fill in puzzle pieces.

If that comes together, then our situation for a few years from now probably looks like this:

IDL: Helming A-, Scott B
EDGE: Anthony B-, Schneider B, Baxter C
ILB: Roybal C, Wilkerson (gimp)
OLB: Peterson B-

...so, pretty gaping need here. In a perfect world, we'd go BPA in round one this year, and then stumble into a good-enough LB to slot in with our pick in round 2 or 3. Not certain I want to invest major capital here, but getting credible long-term players should help.

Not hopeless. Work to do, but not hopeless.
