Unfortunately, our chances of getting another state cut have taken a hit for all 3 of my kids.

On Wednesday morning Bailey woke up with a nasty croupie like cough. By Wednesday afternoon congestion had set in, and there was no improvment this morning (didn't expect there would be any). This will make it difficult for her to swim a personal best...as it is hard to swim fast when you can't breathe well...

Bear actually missed practice yesterday due to nausea. We are hoping that it is related to his acid reflux issues and not a sign of a stomach bug. Regardless, missing practice hurt (especially with our plan to skip Friday), and if he gets a stomach bug, he won't have the energy to swim a state cut time.

The hit to Brett's chances aren't health related...in fact, it is due to a quirk in the way the event is organized. In this Last Chance meet, in order to give the kids every opportunity to gain the time needed, the races will be run in a Preliminary/Finals format. Meaning if a child finishes in the top 20 in the premlims they will swim again that evening in a consulation final (places 20-11) or a finals (places 10-1) - this gives kids 2 chances in the same event to get their time. Sounds great right...well the problem for Brett is that the prelim/final format is only for 100 and 50 yard races. Any 200s or greater will be run as a timed finals...so for the 200 Breast, the top 20 kids will swim in the finals in the evening session only, and Brett is seeded 7th. That means on Sunday Brett will be at the morning session for his other events, then have to come back just to swim the 200 Breast that evening. To make matters worse, evening races aren't typically good ones for Brett, as his ADHD becomes more pronounced later in the day.
