I would agree that simming the highschool game is too extreme. Assigning them reputations would be sufficient I'd think.
The aspect of the highschool influence that I'd be more interested in would be coaches having relationships with certain schools that would give them a bonus/penalty to recruiting there. This would ebb/flow over time and depending on where the guy was coaching.
