Since there are so many fans of the books in this thread, I assume it accelerates the story line in a great way, but I'm totally down after this episode now.

Yes - yes it does accelerate the storyline in a great way. Also gives you a sense for the real stakes and the way that everything is just...wide open and anything can happen.

Perfectly understandable to have the reaction that you're having - not at all uncommon I would venture to say. Stick with it - the ride is just getting going.
