Hadn't thought much about it but now that this is brought up I wonder if it's also working that way on some smithing.
I tricked out a steel sword to Exquisite, it's been my go-to weapon from about levels 10-24 so far. It's value is like 68 gp. Picked up an identical steel sword while scavving, decided to trick it out the same way, value was just 47.
