We open the season at home against the North Carolina Tar Heels. I'd like to see us come out spitting fire.
Made our first contacts with recruits and already have some scholarship offers out there. We're shooting high again this year. Got to keep recruiting well in order to sustain what we've built so far.
Tailback Aaron Castillo had a big day to start the year, rushing for 162 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries and DE Alonzo Chevrier made 9 tackles and sacked the Tar Heel QB twice to lead the Trojans to a 28-9 victory in front of a sold out Rose Bowl.
DE Freddie Stender added 7 tackes and 1.5 sacks and wideout Ronnie Wheeler had a big day receiving, making 6 catches for 102 yards. ILB Chad Berg was lost for the season with a compound leg fracture.
We played well, and it was a solid, if unspectacular way to start the year.

And as always, the BCS teases us with an extremely high early season ranking.
Spent my recruiting time rounding out our primary list of recruits. Haven't had any campus visits yet, hope to start getting some kids on campus next week.
Ball State completely clamped down on Ronnie Wheeler so he couldn't catch a pass all day, so the explosive wideout rushed for two touchdowns as he ran for 52 yards on 4 carries leading the way to a Southern Cal victory, 30-7.
With Ball State covering Wheeler all day, Richie Warrick stepped up and had a big day receiving, making 5 catches for 122 yards, 52 YAC.
On defense, OLB Johnny El Nino led the way with 10 tackles and the Trojans picked off three passes to secure the win.
A solid win - still trying to get Malcolm Moreno set up with the right game plan.

Off week.
USC BCS RANK: #4
Ranked #4, but that'll fall once most teams have played a couple of games.
Added some more recruits to our primary list and got our first campus visits this week. We're recruiting a bunch of good student-athlete types and trying to avoid the academic hard cases - really takes away from their practice time and devlopment when they have to spend so much of the day with tutors in study hall.

WEEK 4
Off week.
USC BCS RANK: #3
The kids are feeling a little giddy right now seeing us ranked so high. But if we don't get Malcolm Moreno back on track that ranking will come tumbling down real fast.
Spent the week following up with kids we've already contacted and made offers to. There are currently a bunch of recruits on campus, so we're hoping to get some early signees out of it.
