Day 3 - Prelims

#37 Girls 11-12 100 Fly
Bailey - 1:02.70 : Seeded 16 – Bailey opened this race with a very slow 29.23…a full second above her personal best. She closed pretty well with a 33.91, but she failed to swim a personal best coming up about .4 off (1:03.14). She was again unhappy with her fly swim and really starting to lose confidence. However, she did finish 18th, which qualified her for finals, and I kept emphasizing that she'd get another shot at the race that evening and she should focus on swimming that one well.

#38 Boys 11-12 100 Fly
Bear – 1:05.04 : Seeded 38 – My prediction of a 1:04 low or 1:03 high was pretty good as he swam a 1:04 on the nose. However, it wasn’t good enough to get him into the B final. He finished 27th.

#42 Boys 11-12 100 Free
Bear – 57.33 : Seeded 38 – Opened with a 27.68, pretty close to his personal best on record, and then he swam a strong 28.88 back half to finish in 56.56. A pretty big drop and he managed to finish 27th.

#49 Girls 11-12 50 Back
Bailey - 31.35 : Seeded 74 – Good back swim earlier in the meet, gave me hope this would be a strong swim for Bailey. She could have worked the arms a bit faster, but she did get a personal best time of 31.04 and she moved up to 56th.

#57 Girls 11-12 200 Medley Relay
Gold Team A – 2:02.31 : Seeded 19 – Courtney was doing back again, and she managed a 31.42 to open, but the team was trailing most of the pool by then end of her swim. Julia swam a nice 33.72 split followed by Bailey’s split of 28.71 moved the team up to about 6th in the heat, but the freestyler lost a bunch of ground when she only managed to swim slightly faster than Bailey’s fly, posting a 28.11. They improved on their seed time, which I’m pretty sure was their time from State going 2:01.96, but they didn’t move up in the standings, settling for 19th.

#58 Boys 11-12 200 Medley Relay
Gold Team A – 1:57.27 : Seeded 11 – So this relay was the same 4 kids from State, but not in the same order. In a real surprise the team flipped Nate and Bear, having Nate do the fly and Bear do the freestyle. The team was in the second to fastest heat, coming in tied for 11th seed with another team only a couple tenths behind. The race completely illustrated how close these 3 teams were as Gold opened with a Nicklas’ 29.44, and things were really tight across the heat with splits ranging from 28 lows to 30 highs. Griffin in breast swam a 33.12, and at this point the team was 3rd in the heat with 2 teams an eye blink behind and two more teams only 1 second back. Nate’s fly split was an extremely strong 27.81, putting Gold second in the heat by a fingernail. Bear dove in, and blistered his split, going a 25.88 – passing the team that had the lead and beating them by .04. The team ended up 10th overall with a team record breaking time of 1:56.25.
