I have often wondered where Bear got the 'Bear' moniker. You may or may not have mentioned it at the beginning of the thread, but that was many years ago and I may have known and forgotten.
Well, pondering answered! I looked up Berry on the collegeswimming website and clicked on a link for Bear in the Times section (50 free) and. lo and behold, saw that his name is Barrett Breeze.
Mystery solved... Barrett=Bear.
