Even though NYC, D.C., Atlanta, etc. are more prestigious markets, it was much harder for me to break into the Raleigh market. Big markets can just absorb lawyers.
But smaller and mid-sized cities have a limit to how many lawyers the economy can support. And when you are talking about a smaller market that still has a high quality of life (college towns being a prime example), it can be very hard to get it. Almost easier in some ways to become a big Wall Street banking lawyer.
