COMPOSTING--September 2nd-23rd

On Sunday, September 2nd, I built the first real pile. It was much smaller than what I have now. By Tuesday the 4th, it was measuring around 150 degrees, and I was a happy man. For the next couple of weeks, I was slowly adding matter, turning it as I was adding it, etc., and saw temperatures as high as 163, and never anything below 145...

...until Florence came and got it too wet, dropping the internal temperature into the 120s. As we started to dry out afterward, last week I broke down the pile entirely, turned it over, tried to mix as much dry material (leaves and dead grass) into it as I could, and measured the following temperatures later in the week:

Thursday, 9/20, AM: 127
Thursday, 9/20, PM: 136
Friday, 9/21, AM: 141
Friday, 9/21, PM: 145
Saturday, 9/22, AM: 146
Saturday, 9/22, PM: 152
Sunday, 9/23, AM: 151

Golden, right? Well, I didn't feel like the pile was large enough. More on that in my next report. Time to respond to some comments first.
