I think most all would prefer a P5 opportunity, but would rather remain independent over going back to a G5.
Personally, my first choice would be Big 12, but I think if BYU, Boise State and San Diego state joined the AAC for a 14 team East/West set up you could make a push for a 6th power conference with the success that programs like SMU, Cincinnati, UCF and Memphis have had over the years.
Edit - One cool thing is the variety of teams we get to play as an indy and the quality has been getting better. This years schedule was amazing before Covid
