Carl Hubbell went the distance and right fielder Mel Ott homered and had 4 RBI
as the NL Pre WWII team outscored the Negro League II Alltime Players 11 to
3.
Ott had a big day at the plate. He slapped a one-base hit in the 3rd inning,
lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 1st of the season) in the
4th inning and doubled in the 8th inning. NL Pre WWII banged out 16 on the
afternoon.
Hubbell(1-0) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. Cannonball
Redding(0-1) took the loss. He was pinned with the loss despite not allowing
an earned run in his 3 innings of work.

Catcher Yogi Berra smashed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the AL Post WWII club
defeated the Dead Ball Era Deads by the score of 7 to 5 at Deadball
Park.
Berra provided the offensive punch. He smashed a two-run homer in the 7th
inning and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 2nd of the
season) in the 8th inning. AL Post WWII won despite being out-hit by Dead
Ball Era 10 hits to 6.
Jim Palmer(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Hoyt Wilhelm
recorded his 1st save. Ed Walsh(0-1) was given the loss. He allowed 3
homeruns in 7 and 2/3 innings of work.

In a lop-sided win the Old Timers Oldies put 4 runs on the scoreboard in the
6th inning and ripped the Negro League I Alltime Players by a 10 to 4
count.
Dan Brouthers led the offense for Old Timers. He slapped a base-hit resulting
in a run in the 1st inning, launched a rocket-shot out of the park for a
Grand Slam homerun (his 1st of the season) in the 6th inning and stroked a
single in the 8th inning. Old Timers ended up with 15 hits for the game
while Negro League I had 12.
Old Hoss Radbourn(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 1/3 innings
and allowing 4 runs. Bullet Joe Rogan(0-1) was the loser. He was hit hard
and gave up 9 hits and 5 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.

Randy Johnson struck out 10 batters and catcher Gary Carter connected with a
'big fly' and had 2 RBI as the Late 20th Century Stars topped the Japanese
League HOF Players by a score of 5 to 2 at Nintendo Field.
Johnson(1-0) pitched a fine game. He was reached for 4 hits and 4 walks in 7
innings and surrendered 2 'round-trippers'. Japanese League was out-hit by
Late 20th, 10 hits to 5.
Goose Gossage gained credit for his 2nd save. Hideo Fujimoto(0-1) was the
losing pitcher in relief. Late 20th scored big getting 4 runs off him in 2
and 1/3 innings.
Johnson didn't realize how many strikeouts he was racking up. When told he
had 10 he was obviously surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a
decent total, but I didn't think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty
good, isn't it?'

Cy Young completed the game without help from the bullpen at Big League Field
as the Turn of Century Centuries beat the NL Post WWII ballclub 5 to 3.
Turn of Century came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. Wee Willie Keeler kicked off the action when he
delivered a base-hit. After an out was recorded, Nap Lajoie came to the
plate and laced a single bringing in a run. Lajoie took second on the throw.
After another out, Jake Beckley stepped up to the plate and he was walked
intentionally. Hugh Duffy followed and he stroked a one-base hit scoring the
final run of the inning. Turn of Century totaled 13 on the night.
Young(1-0) got the victory, allowing 3 runs for the game. Jim Bunning(0-1)
absorbed the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 3 hits in 1 inning.

Outers topped the Caribbean Alltime Players by the slimmest of margins, 5 to
4.
Left Outs tallied 2 runs in the 7th inning. Left Outs managed 7 in their
victory. The win went to Steve Carlton(1-0) who allowed 3 runs in 8 innings.
Carlton got help from Don Drysdale who was credited with his 1st save. Luis
Tiant Sr.(0-1) ended up with the loss.

FOFC All Stars broke the deadlock in their last at bats, pulling out a 5 to 4
win over the AL Pre WWII team and sending their hometown fans home
smiling.
The game was won by FOFC with a run in the 9th inning. After an out was
recorded, Stan Gunner smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 1st of the
season) giving FOFC the victory and sending the 45,148 home-town fans home
happy. FOFC rapped out 9 hits for the night.
The winning pitcher was Bo Knowles(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. The
losing pitcher was Waite Hoyt(0-1) in relief. He gave up 1 hit and no walks
in 1 and 1/3 innings.
