Third baseman Pie Traynor had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as the NL Pre WWII
ballclub beat the Negro League II Alltime Players by a score of 9 to 8.
NL Pre WWII came through with the game-winning runs in the 8th inning as they
scored 5 runs on 6 base hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Traynor who
made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he doubled plating two runs.
Negro League II made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the
needed runs across.
Dizzy Dean(1-0) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Dean
got help from Jesse Haines who was credited with his 1st save. Ray
Brown(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning giving up 6 hits
and 1 walk.
'It's a disheartening loss, no question about it' said Cito Gaston 'But we
have to get over it and get ready for the next game.'

Jack Chesbro went 9 strong innings and second baseman Eddie Collins went yard
and had 3 RBI as the Dead Ball Era Deads defeated the AL Post WWII team 7 to
2 at Deadball Park.
Dead Ball Era brought 4 runs across the plate in the 2nd inning with the help
of 3 hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. Dead Ball Era managed
7 in their victory.
Chesbro(1-0) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Nolan Ryan(0-1)
was the losing pitcher. 'I've been working on a few things in my delivery,
and I think I'm hitting a good groove.' Chesbro said after the game. 'I'm
ready to start another game tomorrow!'

Third baseman Willie Wells connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI at Black
Diamond Pk as the Negro League I Alltime Players beat the Old Timers Oldies
10 to 8.
Negro League I came up with 5 runs in the 2nd inning when they had 5 base
hits. The critical plate appearance was by Wells who electrified Black
Diamond Pk when he bombed a two-run dinger (his 1st of the season). Negro
League I had 16 hits for the game and Old Timers had 13.
Smokey Joe Williams(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 8 runs in 7 and 1/3
innings. Williams got relief help from Webster McDonald who gained credit for
his 1st save. Tim Keefe(0-1) took the loss.

In a two run game the Late 20th Century Stars got by the Japanese League HOF
Players by the score of 4 to 2.
Late 20th took the lead for good in the 3rd inning plating an isolated run on
2 hits. After an out was recorded, Rickey Henderson drew a walk. Tony Gwynn
stepped into the batter's box and he laced a base-knock. Gwynn was running
on the next pitch and he stole second. Wade Boggs stepped in and he lined a
base-hit scoring the run. Japanese League went down quietly in the bottom of
the 9th.
The winning pitcher was Greg Maddux(1-0) who allowed 2 runs in 7 and 1/3
innings. Maddux was helped out by Bruce Sutter who recorded his 1st save.
Kazuhisa Inao(0-1) ended up with the loss.

Sandy Koufax whiffed 10 batters as the NL Post WWII club defeated the Turn of
Century Centuries by the score of 10 to 4 at Big League Field.
Koufax(1-0) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He surrendered only 7
hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. NL Post WWII banged out 12 on the night.
The losing pitcher was Rube Waddell(0-1). He allowed NL Post WWII 7 runs in 2
and 2/3 innings of work. Connie Mack was upset after the game. 'I don't
like to complain but did you see that umpires strike zone?', he said. 'Maybe
they ought to start calling the strike zone the way it's printed in the rule
book.'

Jenkins whitewashed Caribbean at Paradise Park where the Left Outs Left
Outers beat the Caribbean Alltime Players 4 to 0.
Foxx had a big day with his bat. He smashed a two-run homer in the 1st inning
and blasted a solo shot (his 2nd of the season) in the 9th inning. Left Outs
totaled 7 on the night.
Jenkins(1-0) was credited with the shutout. Mike Cuellar(0-1) was given the
loss. He gave up 4 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.

the AL Pre WWII ballclub by the count of 3 to 1.
Mighty(1-0) came through with a virtuoso performance against the AL Pre WWII
hitters. He allowed just 2 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings. Neither team
managed to score after the 4th inning.
Sammy Knowles earned the save, his 1st. Lefty Gomez(0-1) was the loser. He
gave up 3 runs and 6 hits in 7 innings.
