Game Stats vs Sunrise Mountain

I was not expecting as many yards as we got, but in going over film they stuffed us a few times with there blitzes, but when we hit a crease we went for big yards. All told we set a new season high with 433 yards on the ground with 8 runs over 25 yards! (Our measuring stick for a "big play") Of course to offset this rushing outburst we passed for an eye popping 6 yards. Our total offense of 439 yards is our second highest of the season. Not all is rosy as turnovers plagued us, as we lost the ball on our final 3 possesions of the first half (2 fumbles and 1 Int) in this fashion. (2 of them came inside the Sunrise Mountain 20)

Defensively we were very stout focing 3 and outs on 5 of 8 Sunrise possesions, with Jesus G recording an interception and playing a very solid game at Mike Linebacker. The D coordinator is catching up on the defensive stats and I will post them once he gets them done, but I do know we had 3 sacks and at least 6 tackles for loss.

Individually Jamal D was a beast averaging 25.6 yards every time he touched the ball. As I have mentioned before, he is still very raw which is scary! He will be REAL good. Shayne M chipped in with his usual solid effort also topping the 100 mark, despite the fact that Sunrise commited an extra defender outside to stop sweep. They also brought heavy pressure through the A gaps most of the night and because of this I only called Trap one time. Of course this meant they gave us the Belly both strong and weak and we took advantage going for 118 yards on weakside Belly and 102 on the strong side Belly with our Fullbacks (Dylan U and Joseph F also got carries) chewing up 227 yards between them.

Game Stats

Rushing
Jamal D: 7 - 179 yds, 3 TD
Shayne M: 9 - 135 yds
Tywon S: 4 - 48 yds
Dylan U: 2 - 35 yds, 1 TD

Passing
Louis G: 1 - 4 for 3 yds, 1 Int
Jacob S: 1 - 1 for 3 yds

Receiving
Tywon S: 2 - 6 yds

We just did not have enough time to pass and I wasn't going to get to worried about it the way we were running the ball. I did put a hot read in at halftime to get either Shayne or Tywon the ball on a pop pass to exploit the rush, but we never needed to call it. The other highlight of course was Jacob S nailing a 35 yd field goal in the 4th. He is the best kicker we have had at the freshman level and it is a huge weapon having a kicker who can consistently put the ball inside the 10. (He also has 5 touchbacks on the year)

And of course special recognition again to the guys up front that make it happen. As much talent as we have in the backfield, they could not put up anywhere near the ridiculous numbers they do without a solid performance from the line. So....Ryan F, Matthew F, Josiah B, Mario R, Damian C and Antonio A.......Great job Rhinos!!!!!

Next up LaJoya at our place and with our game being on Tuesday this week we get an extra day to prepare......They run a 3-5-3 Defense, occasionally going to a 3-4 in long yardage situations and they love to bring pressure, blitzing on nearly every play. The longer week is welcome, so we can get the line extra reps in to deal with their scheme.
