Steve Victory JOURNAL – Decision 2020
While the Charles Barkley-to-Alabama rumors sparked some life into the usual drab summer sports scene of Tuscaloosa, coach Steve Victory opts not to jump to the ACC after all.
He did go through informal talks with Clemson officials — “just to hear what they had to say” – but opted to stay put after realizing just how poor the Tigers’ hoops program had fallen. Clemson’s talent level for freshmen and the team as a whole is listed as “awful” by the fine folks at .400 Sports.
Victory has been down that road before (when he took over at ‘Bama) and rebuilding a crappy program in a tough conference like the ACC is not his cup of tea at this point. Now if a contender from college basketball’s greatest hoops conference ever came calling, that could be a different story...
Georgia Tech looked a little better than Clemson on paper, but Victory’s not too keen on the Rambling Wreck for whatever reason. Plus, things were just getting good for Alabama at the end of last season. Time to see what he can do now that these boys have some experience! Bring on Alabama in 2020-21!! (Sorry Sheriff and Frank the Faithless—another year of putting up with Coach V in Tuscaloosa)…
