Heading into our first card, Big Magic suffers an eye injury, so the curiosity seekers will have to wait to see if he is the dope, or just a dope. We still have 7 fights on tap and an eager crowd as the lights come up.....
| | ECW 1: Genesis- February 24th, 2001 - Arizona | | | | Main Event - ECW Middleweight Title | | | MW | Isaiah Monroe 8-0 | vs | Dwayne Alleyne 8-0 | | | In a battle of two strong wrestlers, it was Alleyne who pushed the action, but Monroe who controlled it.Going a perfect 4 for 4 on takedowns, Monroe was able to control Alleyne on the ground, landing 39 ground strikes, to only 11, as well as pass Alleyne's guard on 3 of 4 attempts. It was only Alleynes ability to scramble that kept him from getting pounded out, with Monroe stuffing 9 of his attempted takedowns as well. The standup was fairly even at 51 to 42 punches landed for Monroe, but his ground game made the difference 49-46, 49-46, 50-45 | | | | Isaiah Monroe defeated Dwayne Alleyne by UD 5 - Wins MW Title | | | Undercard | | | LH | Brody Howles 5-0 beat Glenn Pimm 34-12 by unanimous decision 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 | | | HW | Damien Jones 6-0 beat Collins Lundie 12-4 by KO (punch) 3:01 rd 3 (Fight of the night, KO of the night) | | | HW | Nate MacReary 5-0 beat Harvey Loeb 9-6 by unanimous decision 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 | | | MW | Barrett Fforde 7-3 beat Carson Neuwirth 15-13 by submission (armbar) 3:33 rd 3 (Sub of the night) | | | Preliminarys | | | Wesley Sneep beat French Dancer, Mort Slinsby beat Stan Still | | | Attendance: 336 | Gate: $25,354 | Ratings: Critical 58%, Commercial 46% | | | Wrap up | | | A solid if unspectacular main event, which garnered a rating of decent, which part could be due to the barnburner that preceded it in the Jones/Lundie slugfest that saw both men eschew any attempt at grappling, instead throwing haymakers the entire fight.Though they missed more than they landed the action was non-stop and the right hand from Jones that ended it was terrifying.Lundie suffered a concussion and will be out 4 months, while Pimm will be out 3 months with a hand injury.Howles looks to move up in the rankings, but the LHW division is stocked, with Dreck and Pascal squaring off for the that belt at ECW 2: Uprising. |
