Group D, Round 1, Game 1

#6 Baltimore at #1 Texas

Starting Pitchers

Jeremy Guthrie (BAL) vs. C.J. Wilson (TEX)

Game Recap

Baltimore- 7, Texas- 5 -- The Orioles become the 3rd of 4 #6 seeds that have played so far to beat the top seed in their group. After Texas went up 4-1 after 2 innings thanks to homers from Nelson Cruz and Yorvit Torrealba, Baltimore's Matt Wieters answered with a 3 run shot in the top of the 3rd to tie it at 4. Nolan Reimold had a solo shot in the top of the 4th and the Orioles would hold the lead the rest of the game. Baltimore closer Jim Johnson inherited trouble in the bottom of the 9th with Baltimore up 7-4, as Mark Worrell allowed to base runners to start the inning. Johnson got Torrealba to hit into a double play, then David Murphy tripled home a run, but Ian Kinsler flew out as the #6 seeds continue to shock.

Game Recap

Pittsburgh- 3, Washington- 1 -- Despite pounding out 13 hits in the game, the Nationals just couldn't find a way to get any runs across.
