Group E, Round 6, Game 1

New York Yankees (3-2, +17, 1st) at Chicago Cubs (3-2, +9, 2nd)

Starting Pitchers

Brian Gordon (NYY) vs. Doug Davis (CHC)

Game Recap

New York Yankees- 5, Chicago Cubs- 1 -- Brian Gordon couldn't quite finish off the complete game, leaving with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, but Rafael Soriano struck out Alfonso Soriano to end it with 2 men on base. Interestingly enough, Soriano scored the Cubs' only run in the bottom of the 7th. He singled, but the ball got by Yankee left fielder Brett Gardner, and Soriano came all the way around to score. Mark Teixeira tried to use an illegal bat in his first at-bat in the top of the 2nd and was ejected. Fortunately, his suspension is only 1 game.

Group E, Round 6, Game 2

Atlanta (2-3, -9, 5th) at Kansas City (3-2, -2, 3rd)

Starting Pitchers

Mike Minor (ATL) vs. Luis Mendoza (KC)

Game Recap

Kansas City- 8, Atlanta- 1 -- Melky Cabrera homered and had 4 RBIs for the Royals, while Jeff Francoeur homered and had 3 RBIs, and Billy Butler added a solo homer. Mendoza went 8 innings of shutout ball, but the shutout was blown in the 9th when Sean O'Sullivan gave up an RBI triple to Brandon Hicks.

Group E, Round 6, Game 3

Los Angeles Angels (3-2, -4, 4th) at Los Angeles Dodgers (1-4, -11, 6th)

Starting Pitchers

Matt Palmer (LAA) vs. Dana Eveland (LAD)

Game Recap

Los Angeles Dodgers- 3, Los Angeles Angels- 0 -- Another great pitching performance as Eveland went 7 2/3 innings for the Dodgers, and Lance Cormier and Jonathan Broxton completed the shutout. The Angels scattered 6 hits in this one, and lost Alberto Callaspo to injury. Cormier was ejected after the top of the 8th for arguing balls and strikes.
