For whatever it's worth, some of that classic cars-era Gary Numan/Tubeway Army is fucking awesome (and dark). Replicas, The Pleasure Principle and Telekon in particular. Unfortunately, through the '80s and '90s he also made like 20 horrible albums and then became the Quentin Tarantino to Trent Reznor's Eli Roth, where they both 'inspired' each other into making soundalike crap that was below both of their previous standards.
