Yeah, you either bury this in a confidential investigation with an ending summary that there were no crimes that could be charged, or you do something like this, where there's so much out there that you can't not charge him.
My thought is that this is the equivalent to getting Capone for tax evasion. Rather than the messiness of January 6, take him down for something way more straight forward, clean, and easy to explain/understand.
