I didn't adjust our schedule too much this year except to remove a few big time programs. Our first game is against a tougher opponent as we'll be traveling to play Cal Poly. They are rated 76 overall while we are down 1 point from last year at 68. However, our defense is up from last year while our offense is down. Both teams have terrible team unity right now.

I kept referring to this team as a defensive grind it out team, and that probably wans't quite right. We are going to be a defensive oriented risk taking team. We have size on most teams and we are trapping a fair bit. As a result, we should have some high scoring games. We are giving up some easy baskets and also getting some turnovers. Although, we are only trapping for a few minutes this first half so it's not too high. 38-37, we lead at the half.

Thoughts from the first half:

O'Brien has won the backup PG job. He did something I can't remember Swoger doing all year - drill a 3. Also, he is quicker and a better penetrator. Weatherspoon despite his rating actually made one little jump hook shot. The big man hasn't done much and hasn't blocked any shots. He is too slow to be very effective. Still, he has 5 points, 2 boards, and 2 assists. We are going to up the search on a more athletic big center.

Newton is our leading scorer with 7 points off the bench in just 8 minutes. Martin has 6 points off the bench. Of course, we started trapping and running more then were in the game and our opposition was tired.

We lose 89-68 and Weatherspoon manages to play himself out of the starting spot. He didn't play terribly, but he lacks the footspeed to play effectively in the system we want to run. He'll become a bench player that will get a few minutes a game and we'll go with a more athletic lineup with Lloyd starting at center and Johnson finally getting the well earned start at PF.

Weatherspoons's stats in 28 minutes: 7 points, 3 boards (terrible for such a big man) and 3 assists. 0 blocks.

Johnson in 22 minutes had 12 points and 5 boards. His 12 points led the team. Lloyd had 9 points, 12 boards, and 2 blocks in 29 minutes.

Spencer in his first start had 6 points in 20 minutes. Bose had 5 points in 2 minutes as his man outclassed him today. Bakari Lewis had 6 points and 3 assists. In a surprise, O'Brien had 7 points off the bench as he was 2 of 2 behind the arc.

Our next game is the following night as our west coast trip continues with a game at UCSB on the 7th.

We lose that game 84-72 as their PF has 42 points! He shot 18 of 28!

Ryan Crumbley just dominated us.

He helped foul out Johnson, Lloyd, and Weatherspoon quite quickly as none of them played more than 14 minutes.

Bakari Lewis led the team with 18 points and 6 assists. Bose had 11 points and 5 boars. Spencer had a nice game with 13 points and 7 boards. At 0-2 our road trip continues with a 3rd game in 3 nights as we travel to play Penn. I'll play that later tonight most likely.
