How they fared:

Syracuse beat #2 Alabama 94-82 to advace to the Final 4.

#1 Florida lost to #6 Texas 81-63 in the Elite 8.

#1 Maryland lost to #10 Ohio State 73-61 in the Elite 8.

#1 Michigan State lost to #5 Cicinnati 78-66 in the Sweet 16. Cincinnati then beat #3 Arizona 67-66 to advance to the Final 4.


In the Final 4:

Ohio State beat Cincinati 91-81 due in part to 28 points by senior center Kosta Koufos.

Syracuse crushed Texas 108-79 behind 41 points by SR SG Scoop Jardine.


With a balanced effort in which every starter hit double digits, Syracuse beats Ohio State 79-76 to win the National Championship.



SR PG Jeff Teague, Wake Forest, wins Player of the Year. He averaged 26.9 ppg, 5.7 apg, 4.9 rpg, and 1.7 spg.

Herb Pope, New Mexico State, won Mid Major Player of the Year. The 6'10 260 pound SR PF averaged 23.5 ppg and 8.4 rpg.

Syracuse's coach won coach of the year.

SR C Festus Ezeli of Vanderbilt won defensive player of the year. He averaged 3.3 bpg alog with 14.1 ppg, 8.3 rpg, ad 0.7 spg.

SR PF Elgin Bailey of Mississippi State won Big Man of the Year. He averaged 24.6 ppg and 6.2 rpg.

Doug English of Louisville, a 6'5 200 pound SG, won Freshman of the year. He averaged 14 ppg and 3.8 rpg.
