There is no good excuse other than not caring about the perception or (more likely) not understanding the perception. For an IT guy, it gives the perception of outdated. I'd toss @yahoo.com in the same category.
Even with grandmother, how hard is it to create a @gmail.com or @outlook.com to put on a CV/resume.
I wouldn't deny but it would be a strike.
