Bear

Bear has is first meet of the season on Saturday and Sunday. It’s difficult to get a read on where he is right now. He says he’s still not in shape from taking it easy over the summer to address his overwork injury in his lats and traps. However, he also says that the kids at SwimAtlanta work much harder than he did when he was at Gold. In addition, Bear is having some tenderness in his lat/trap area again, so he’s going in for treatment today (9/19), and I don’t know how that will impact his ability to race. It’s going to be interesting to see how this shakes out.

# 3 (d1/s1): 50 Free (23.83) – Because of the way SA runs practice, Bear is doing at lot more sprint work than he did with Gold. He might be in a position to do well here, even if it is early, untappered, and he’s not in shape yet.

# 6 (d1/s1): 100 Fly (56.40) – Coach Landon has indicated he wants to work on Bear’s fly, not sure if they’ve started or not…so no idea what to expect.

# 7 (d1/s1): 200 Free (1:45.91) – This is one of the events where fatigue from practice, and not being in peak shape will probably hinder his results.

# 17 (d2/s5): 200 Medley (2:03.39) – breast and back are both probably still an issue, because he hasn’t focused on fixing them yet, so I don’t expect much.

# 21 (d2/s5): 100 Free (51.04) – 50 free will be a good indication of what to expect here.

# 22 (d2/s5): 200 Fly (1:57.01) – I don’t expect much in this grueling race with Bear being worn out and out of shape.

# 24 (d2/s5): 500 Free (4:41.77) – see the 200 fly
