Week 1
Atlanta @ Jonesboro Saints
We kick off the season with what should be an easy game. Jonesboro is starting their #2 overall pick at QB, and he just doesn't seem to be ready for the challenge of a real game. They are also already beat up badly. Eight players (5 of them starters) are listed as out, and several more are questionable. Ever since the Saints packed up and left New Orleans, they have been a terrible team. Now they just don't have the fan base to really support the team. They currently have a stadium that holds 76,300 people. The city's population is 80,000. I suppose that one should be impressed that 25% of the population came to each game last year, but a team can not be effectively run like this.

Leland capped off the first drive of the game with a 38 yard TD run. He finished the game with a game winning 6 yard TD run. In between he had 37 carries for 115 more yards. It was a solid performance for him, even though he did not average 4.3 yards. We struggled defensively, allowing the game to go into OT, but in the end we walk away with the victory, 28-22.

We suffer two more injuries on our offensive line. Now our LT and RT and RG will all miss next week's game.

Week 2
Monroe Jets 0-1 @ Atlanta 1-0
If there is a team in worse financial conditions than Jonesboro, it is the Jets. Ever since they made the inexplicable decision to move to Louisiana, the team has been pathetic. We are heavily favored in this game, but the injuries to our line could spell disaster for us.

Nixon has 31 carries for 163 yards, but he was held out of the end zone, and he coughed up his first fumble of the year.

This game ended in a flurry of field goals. In four of our final s possessions during regulation we ended the drive with field goals. The Jets kicked field goals on both of their first possessions of the fourth quarter. Our last drive of the fourth quarter tied the score with just 56 seconds left in the game. Monroe put together an amazing drive in those final 56 seconds, but they missed the 43 yard field goal as time expired in regulation, which put the game into OT.

We won the toss, and went on a 14 play, 8 minute drive that ended with a 31 yard field goal to win the game, 19-16.
