Game 9, played on June 10, saw the Honey Badgers finally get back in the win column at the hands of my former captain, Doug, and his Swingers. It was the first game in a while where we started out fast, though the end turned into a thrill ride. Also, we got a replacement player for the game for Johnson, who quit on us. Vinny is a DSL vet, but due to uncertainty in where his master’s program would be, he did not sign up for the season.
In the top of the first, we took a 4-0 lead. We followed with the maximum five runs in the second, but the Swingers answered with three runs to make it 9-3. We scored four in the third, and so did the Swingers to make it 13-7. Neither team scored in the fourth. In the fifth, we got three runs, and they scored two to make it 16-9. We couldn’t get a run in the sixth, and they scored the maximum five to cut our lead to 16-14. We scored a run in the seventh, but the Swingers answered with three runs to tie the game. For the first time in the 2012 DSL season, there would be an extra innings game. In the top of the eighth, we scored two runs, and we held the Swingers in check for a 19-17 final.
