Picking a nit, but at least in my state the bit about "the vast majority of the money for which comes from state taxes" is patently false. So false, in fact, that in Indiana, there are serious discussions going on among various university presidents to end the state school charade and go private. Last I heard, the state's contribution to IU was around 17% of our revenue.
