Genoa's island province of Corsica has been under control of rebels for quite some time.
With France preoccupied, the time has come.

The nobility during this period still recalled the days when the King was just the first among many nobles. The nobility wanted to return to these days and would frequently pressure the King to regain certain lost rights of privileges.

Event: Families Left Behind
The recent war is taking a heavy toll on our people. Many were called, few are returning. The families of nobles and commoners alike toiled as they waited for soldiers to return home, but the war ended and they never did. Now the toiling continues, many being so preoccupied with the work to make up for the lost pair of hands that they barely have time to grieve. Of the ones who have time to think, many are increasingly thinking that we are throwing away lives too carelessly.

The Bourgeoisie class has grown increasingly resentful of the power of the noble failies and particularly their lack of opportunities in the higher ranks of government. Their only route into power is to marry into poor but well titled noble families or pry open positions in government circles.

In 1509 a monk and engineer tore down the medieval walls of Padua and replaced them with a rampart and a ditch which could be swept by flanking fire from the walls, adding an additional level of protection.
