Year 100 Q2 Rankings Update
1. Renke Cananis (27, DEU) - 14,640
2. Leon Polychroniadis (26, GRC) - 14,110
The #1 spot has been on the line in multiple tournaments already, but Cananis has held firm and the power couple has extended their advantage over the early months of the year. It's likely that we'll now see some seperation between them however. Polychroniadis made a clean sweep of the clay events, and that seems unlikely to be replicated; Cananis actually has a slightly better proficiency on the dirt.
3. Themis Xanthos (27, CYP) - 7,210
4. Ben Faille (21, FRA) - 7,080
While certainly not of the same importance, there's also a back-and-forth happening for the #3 spot. Xanthos inched back in front with his showing in Miami. As ever, it's all about how often he actually shows up, in terms of how long he can hold off the French phenom.
5. Toni Bardales (26, ESP) - 5,700
Stunningly, Bardales does not even have a trainer. He was up-and-down on the clay last year and could potentially make that battle for #3 quite interesting indeed if he can pull things together more consistently this season.
6. Jochen Weigle (25, SUI) - 5,240
The catchphrase for Weigle I think is 'just kinda there'. Rarely loses early, rarely threatens to pull an upset, just seemingly always a reliable quarterfinalist in any big event and then goes away. I don't have any reason to expect that to change.
7. Solitris Papadias (27, GRC) - 4,860
Papadias has been making a bit more noise than expected, reminding everyone that he's still very much in possession of world-class technique.
8. Alexander Reimann (27, DEU) - 4,730
Sliding on down, and making way for the next generation.
9. Ale Ballok (25, ITA) - 3,875
Other than the early Miami loss, he's done quite well at holding steady and waiting for Reimann to get out of his way.
10. Eddy Copperfield (28, AUS) - 2,940
Mr. Unpredictable is still hanging around.
Still an open question who is next up. Oleg Urazov was up to 11th, then slipped a couple spots after Raul Ramirez had his run at Miami. Alketas Albanos is still unreliable but also right in the thick of it. And many eyes will be fixed on young Goya Banqueria, currently 24th, to see what he can do on the clay this year.
367. Manoj Datar (32, SRI)
He might still be Sri Lanka's top-ranked player on paper, but Datar is fading and it gets more obvious all the time.
432. Sushant Srivastava (24, SRI)
Steady, gradual progress continues.
1954. Aparna Chandrasekharan (19, SRI)
Chandrasekharan is at the same point in the aging curve (96%) as Srivastava is now. Just on the upward swing instead of the downside. He's not quite to the Top 10 Sri Lanka players yet, but approaching it.
498 (J). Girish Raychaudhari (15, SRI)
Still grinding away, looking for that first JG5 title. Semifinals has been more the consistent result of late.
