Curt Schilling shuts down Chicago with a complete game 7 hit shutout while walking 2 and striking out 10 (with no bloody sock). Steve Rogers gets rattled for the loss as he allows 5 runs on 7 hits in 3.2 innings with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Frank Chance has 3 hits and 2 EBI's for Takoma Park. Babe Ruth has a pair of hits, including a homerun.

Yuma @ Kalamazoo
Don Newcombe continues his scoreless streak as he throes 8.2 innings of scoreless ball and allows only 5 hits in a 10-0 Kalamazoo victory. Mike Cuellar gets chased aster just 3.0 innings as he allows 6 runs on 8 hits. Brooks Robinson goes 3 for 4 with 2 homeruns and knocks in 4 runs for Kalamazoo. Mickey Tettleton and Garry Maddox both also homered for Kalamazoo.

Staten Island @ Stamford
Ty Cobb scored in the bottom of the 1st on a throwing error to give Stamford the 1-0 lead. In the top of the 4th Al Dark singles home Lou Gehrig to tie the game 1-1. Sam Crawford hits a solo homerun down the line in right on the first pitch of the top of the 5th to give Staten Island a 2-1 lead. In the top of the 8th Carl Furillo hits a solo homerun to give Staten Island a 3-1 lead. Joe Sambito comes in to pitch the bottom of the 9th. He gets Mike Schmidt to ground out and Ty Cobb to ground out. After getting ahead of Roberto Alomar 0-2; Almomar fouls off a couple pitches and then lines a base hit to right. Monte Irvin represents the tying run as he steps to the plate. On a 1-1 pitch Irvin rips a ground ball to second for the final out of the game. Staten Island wins 3-1. Jim Palmer gets the win as he allows 1 run (unearned) on 4 hits with 7 strikeouts in 8.0 innings. Dave Dravecky gets the loss, allowing 3 runs on 10 hits in 8.1 innings. Sam Crawford goes 4 for 4 for Staten Island.

Wichita @ Dayton
In the bottom of the 1st Joe Morgan doubles home Tim Raines to give Dayton a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 3rd Hank Aaron doubles home Tim Raines to give Dayton a 2-0 lead. In the top of the 4th George Brett gets Wichita on the board with a solo homerun to make it 2-1. In the bottom of the 4th Dayton scores twice; on RBI singles by Wes Westrum and Tim Raines. Dayton takes a 4-1 lead. Calvin Jones comes in to pitch the top of the 9th. George Brett works the count full on several fouls and then doubles to lead off the inning. Ken Griffey Jr. singles to knock in Brett and Griffey goes to 2nd on the throw, 4-2. Kent Hrbeck flies out to deep center, Griffey tags and moves to 3rd. Ken Boswell strikes out swinging for the second out. Bake McBride ground right back to the pitcher to end the game; Dayton wins 4-2. Preacher Roe improves to 3-1 with the win as he allows just 1 run in 8.0 innings on 5 hits with 10 strikeouts. Frank Tanana gets the loss as he allows 4 runs on 8 hits in 5.0 innings with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Tim Raines has 3 hits with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.

Wichita @ Dayton
Dayton jumps to a 12-4 lead and holds on for a 12-9 victory. Dayton pounds out 12 runs on 19 hits but did commit 4 errors. Danny Jackson allows 4 runs on 8 hits in 7.0 innings for the win. Dave McNally drops to 0-5 and allows 6 runs on 8 hits in only 1.2 innings. Every starter had a hit for Dayton. Kevin McReynolds and Jack Clark each homered for Dayton. McReynolds had 3 hits and was a triple shy of the cycle, which made up for his 2 errors. Ken Griffey Jr. had 3 hits for Wichita.

Yuma @ Kalamazoo
Brett Saberhagen takes a shutout into the 9th but is pulled and allows a run (a 9th inning homerun by Juan Gonzalez) in a 4-1 Kalamazoo victory. Saberhagen allows 1 run on 7 hits in 8.1 innings for the win. Jerry Koosman allows 4 runs in 6.1 innings on 13 hits as he gets his first loss of the season. Juan Gonzales has 3 hits for Yuma. Mickey Tettleton, Garry Ward and Johnny Evers each have 3 hits for Kalamazoo.

Staten Island @ Stamford
Stamford takes an early 7-2 lead and holds on for a 7-4 victory. Norwood Gibson allows 2 runs on 5 hits in 6.0 innings with 4 walks and 6 strikeouts for the win. Orval Overall drops to 1-3 as he allows 5 runs on 6 hits in 3.0 innings. Ty Cobb has 4 hits for Stamford. Dave Engle and Manny Trillo each homered for Staten Island. Cleon Jones homered for Stamford.

Takoma Park @ Chicago
Takoma Park does what no one else has so far and pounds Dickey Kerr in an 8-4 victory. Larry Jansen allows 4 runs on 10 hits in 6.0 innings for the win. Dickey Kerr is knocked out in the 1st inning as he allows 6 runs on 6 hits in just 0.2 innings. George Foster has 4 hits for Takoma Park in the win. Tony Gwynn has 3 hits for Chicago.

Staten Island @ Stamford
Staten Island scores 3 in the top of the 1st on an RBI single by Carl Furillo and a two run double by Al Dark to take a 3-0 lead. Tony Lazzeri hits a solo homerun to lead off the bottom of the 3rd and make it 3-1. In the bottom of the 5th Ty Cobb singles home Tony Lazzeri to make it 3-2. In the bottom of the 6th Boog Powell scores on a Ken Griffey Jr. ground out to tie the game 3-3. Joe Sambito comes in to pitch the top of the 9th. HE retires Brian Downing, Ken Griffey Jr. and Otis Nixon in order to send the game to extra innings. In the top of the 11th Larry Doby leads off with a solo homerun of Dave Smith to give Staten Island a 4-3 lead. They go on to load th ebases with two outs but Gary Neibauer comes on to retire Sam Crawford to end the inning. Mark Huismann comes in to pitch the bottom of the 11th. Boog Powell doubles to lead off the inning. Mike Schmidt fouls off a 2-2 pitch and then takes the next pitch and crushes it over the fence in left center for a game winning 2 run homerun. Stamford wins 5-4. Gary Neibauer gets the win in relief with Mark Huismann getting the loss in relief. Sam Crawford has 4 hits for Staten Island. Ty Cobb goes 4 for 4 for Stamford.

Yuma @ Kalamazoo
In the top of the 3rd Jackie Robinson singles home Tim Foli to give Yuma a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 3rd Earle Combs scores on a sacrifice fly by Merv Rettenmund to tie the game 1-1. In the top of the 6th Juan Gonzalez hits a 2 run homerun to give Yuma a 3-1 lead. Tug McGraw comes in to pitch the bottom of the 9th. After Bill Robinson flies out for the first out Earle Combs singles. Combs moves to second on a wild pitch. Johnny Evers flies out to shallow center for the second out. Bobby Thomson singles and Combs scores without a throw to make it 3-2. Merv Rettenmund singles, 1st and 2nd with two outs. Mickey Tettleton doubles, Thomson scores but Rettenmund is held at 3rd. Game tied 3-3. Willie Aikens ground out to second to end the inning and send the game to extra innings tied 3-3. Byung-Hyn Kim comes in to pitch the 10th. Ray Schalk and Jackie Robinson single to lead off the inning, 1st and 2nd with no outs. John Olerud lines out to short for the first out. Juan Gonzaliez singles, Schalk scores to make it 4-3. Luis Gonzalez singles to load the bases. Willie McGee hits a fly ball down the line in right field, it is just over the fence and inside the foul pole, grand slam! Yuma takes an 8-3 lead. Bob James comes in to retire the next two batters to end the inning. Monty Kennedy comes in to pitch the bottom of the 10th. Buck Freeman strikes out and Dave Concepcion grounds out, two outs. Felix Milan walks on 4 pitches. Earle Combs singles, 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. Gary Ward doubles, both Milan and Combs score to make it 8-5. Bobby Thomson works a full count and hits a deep fly to right but it is caught at the track to end the game. Yuma wins 8-5. Tug McGraw blows the save but gets the win in relief. Kim gets the loss and is 0-4 in relief with an ERA over 19. Jackie Robinson and Juan Gonzalez each have 3 hits for Yuma. Earle Combs is 5 for 6 with 3 runs scored for Kalamazoo.

Wichita @ Dayton
Ozzie Smith singles home Alan Ashby in the top of the 3rd to give Wichita a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 6th Joe Morgan hits a 3 run homerun to give Dayton a 3-1 lead. Marcelino Lopez comes in to pitch the top of the 9th. Bob Meusel ground out for the first out. George Brett walks on four pitches. Joe Carter pops out to first, two outs. Gen Griffey Jr. singles, 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. Kent Hrbeck strikes out swinging to end the game, Dayton wins 3-1. Herb Pennock gets his first win as he allows 1 run on 6 hits in 8.0 innings. Bert Blyleven gets the loss as he allows 3 runs on 3 hits in 7.0 innings.

Takoma Park @ Chicago
Takoma Park gets on the board in the top of the 1st as Andre Dawson singles in Babe Ruth to make it 1-0. Chicago strings together 5 hits in the bottom of the 1st to score 3 and take a 3-1 lead thanks to an RBI single by Brooks Robinson, an RBI double by Will Clark and an RBI single by Rick Miller. In the top of the 2nd Donie Bush doubles home Tommie Agee to make it 3-2. Bush scores on a Frank Chance sacrifice fly two batters later to tie the game 3-3. Takoma Park scores 3 in the top of the 5th on a two run double by Bobby Grich and an RBI single by Tommie Agee, they take a 6-3 lead. Jim Delahanty singles home Tony Gwynn in the bottom of the 5th to make it 6-4. The game stays 6-4 into the bottom of the 9th. Pete Richert comes in to pitch the bottom of the 9th. He retires the side in order as Takoma Parks completes the sweep 6-4. Juan Guzman gets the win and allows 4 runs on 7 hits in 6.0 innings with 4 walks and 6 strikeouts. Joe Niekro gets the loss as he allows 6 runs on 6 hits in 4.0 innings with 5 walks and 2 strikeouts.
