6-20-2005

(05:04) Aftermath Part 1 Following what could only be described as the worst loss in Hippos history, the team held a closed door meeting.

Coach Juan Maria Miguel had little to say but promised the media outside the locker room that if the Hippos didn't win IV.21 then he would resign in the offseason.

Franchise icon and starting keeper Tim Kimber was stunned at his performance and could only muster "I let down my team and everyone. I'm very, very sorry."

(04:59) Aftermath Part 2 Contrarily, a clearly agitated Mick Starks, captain, talked to anyone who would listen: "This should be a huge wakeup call to some of the guys. I kept hearing all week how this was going to be a pushover match. It showed in our performance- only half the team was trying out there."

The Hippos face a rought week as they look to rebound from this devistating loss. Wednesday the team travels to face a tough Las Temitas Asesinas and Sunday the Div III relegee Triumphs visit the Hippodrome.

(03:01) Embarrassed The Hippos suffered their worst loss ever in Hippos history.

Houston jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but grew overconfident and pulled back, giving up 4 straight goals and digging themselves a hole they could never get out of. In the 80th minute, Houston cut the lead to 1 but the Airknights answered to push the lead back to 2.

The Airknights played their best game all season and got their first 3 points in Div IV while the Hippos remained in 1st, but only by GD.

(07:28) Cupdate, Week 4 Another week and 5 teams still remain. Math FC, Triumphs, Enforcers, NYFC, and the Hippos move on. Two IV.21 teams fell as FC JunJun ran into a 200+ rating team while super doggstar united ran into a titanic midfield.

Houston gave up their first goal but ran their cup GD to 33-1, beating the tsifter broncos 6-1. Kris Jacobsen led the attack with a pair of goals, running his cup tally to 7. Next week the Hippos will face their largest cup challenge to date in Las Temitas Asesinas from V.11

(05:53) Cupdate, Week 3 The seven remaining teams in IV.21 all won their games in the cup this week and, while it wasn't as convincing as the first two weeks, the 7 wins were still by a 33-5 margin.

The Hippos won 9-0 against FC FTMD. Jacobsen got a hat trick while Starks and Mosca each had 2 goals. Timber managed a shutout despite low form.

Next week the competition heats up as IV.21 has to face Div V teams.

In series the Hippos face a tough opponent in last season's 2nd place team, super doggstar unit.

(03:16) Cupdate, Week 2 This week, 7 of 8 IV.21 teams won 54-0. However, the Airknights fell to FC Martini99, a team which placed 2nd in their series last season. That game aside, all other games were won 6-0 or more.

The Hippos won 8-0 as 4 different striker trainees accounted for 6 of the 8 goals. Unfortunately, Ronny Brogaard had to leave the game in the first half with an injury and, for the second game in a row, Kris Jacobsen came in as an injury replacement. Brogaard is expected to be out about a week.

(09:04) Season 26 Off and Running IV.21 had a spectacular showing in week 1 of the USA cup with a 68-0 collective whitewashing of opponents. 6-0 was the "closest" of the games.

This season is shaping up to be the toughest in quite a while in IV.21 with a 197 Hatstats average. Once Hatstats updates, 4 of the teams should be in the top 100 for IV.

The Hippos started off the season with a 3-1 win over rival Wisconsin Enforcers. Even in the pouring rain, Houston put up a 244 and hopes to crack 250 by season's end.

(19:13) Boring Offseason Compared with the second half of last season, the Hippos will be fairly silent. The rebuilding ended as 20yo American keeper Quintin Staples joined the team, replacing Johan Larsson

Team captain and assistant coach Mick Starks thinks the team has a good shot at competing for the top spot in the series: "With Elsa's gone, there's no consensus top team. Wisconsin, doggstar, and us all finished within 5 points and we've been improving".

Season ticket sales are brisk so get your orders in
