Season 28 Press Announcements

(05:23) Div II Qualifier and Flag Logo While it seems unlikely the Hippos will win their qualifier Sunday, at least they can say they had a chance to make it to Div II. Houston faces Lake Superior Dogfight of II.4, albeit without Erwin Vickers who was red carded in Sunday's draw with Miami Redskins SC. Coach Starks: "First place in this tough division is a quite a feat."

With flagcreator.be back up and running, the globetrotting Hippo logo is back. The little team from Houston has now visited over half the countries in hattrick.

(14:29) Final Week for Season 28 Riding the most unlikely tide of luck, the Hippos go into week 14 on top of III.3. While last week's loss to RTFC took autopromotion out of the picture, Houston will set their sights on getting a qualifier and the possibilities that entails.

In flag collecting news, the Hippos will be presented with flag #54 in Slovenija next week when they play VNK Carniola. They have visited Div 1 teams from Foroyar, Magyarorszag, Venezuela, Danmark, Uruguay, and Chile thus far this season.

(04:56) Lady Luck, Good and Bad Even the Hippos were marveling at the bad luck of the Misfitz. Houston went a 3 for 3 on scoring chances while Maniacal went only 1 for 7. Not all luck is good as Vickers and Partridge will be out with red cards next week.

The Hippos will collect their 52nd flag this week as they travel to Superligaen team Honas FC in Danmark. While statisticians have no idea if this is some sort of record, they will mark the 36th Div I team Houston has played in a friendly.

(04:21) First Place and 50 Flags! Ok, sure it's for one brief shining moment, the Hippos are in 1st in Div III after Sunday's 3-1 win at home against PCFC. It's unlikely to last but the players are celebrating anyway. "Any day that ends in 'y' is a good day for me to drink" mused Amsterdam native Joost Oosterhof.

The Hippos will be heading to Magyarország on Tuesday for a friendly against Div I Fehervar FC. GM SterlingIce will be presented with the team's 50th flag at halftime: "We're still not even halfway done!"

(02:56) Call an Ambulance! (Part 2) Just last week, the Hippos fired the spare doctors who nursed the team back to health in the first half of the season. They're back.

The Hippos lost both Vickers and Little to injuries in the first half of a 2-0 cup match with Div II Hokuten. Q and the defense fought valiantly but couldn't overcome the injuries.

After Little fell, Coach Starks barked "whoever wants to play middie, take a step forward". The entire team took a step back except Xacobo Armengol who speaks very little English.

(21:45) Huh? Echoing the sentiment from around the series, Hippos management is confused today as the series was upside down Sunday. But it's a good surprise as the Hippos, expecting a loss following last week's 1-1 draw at home, left Philly with a 6-1 PIC blowout win against Budvar.

It was a bizarre week all over III.3 as PCFC over Exile was the only "expected" result. The 7th and 8th place teams kept their hopes alive as RTFC drew the Misfitz and Miami beat the offensively challenged Camels.

(17:14) And now for something... completely different The HT Masters has thrown a bit of a kink into their TS plans as the Hippos will have a friendly next week instead of their next cup game. Coach Starks: "I didn't know about this asinine no-cup week nonsense"

So, Houston will host their next Cup game in 2 weeks against Hokuten. In the interim, the Hippos will go to Fřroyar and collect their 49th flag against the #2 team in Div 1, SI Sřrvágur.

In series, a huge home-and-away with 1st place Budvar Kings looms the next two weeks.

(21:29) Crucial Matches Upcoming The Hippo faithful are ecstatic about the deep cup run yet again, this time with a home game. Looming Wednesday is a matchup with fellow FOFC'er fflix and his booger ballers.

Hopefully that doesn't distract the fans from the bigger picture: the Hippos next four games, home-and-away's with PCFC and Budvar. Said coach Starks: "If we can just manage a split with these guys, we'd be in a really good spot, coming down the stretch."

(06:27) Slow Day in Houston A lazy day at the Hippos front office led to this pretty boring press announcement...

Four games into III, and the Hippos have 9 points despite all of their injury troubles. Sunday, the team got a really nice win at home against the FOFC rival Misfitz, showing that injuries and home field advantage best horrible form when the latter keeps players back for the cup.

That's all we've got. Seriously...

(02:55) Call an Ambulance! The Hippos have started out their first season in III with a bang, with a pair of wins.

However, with that bang is a bit of a whimper as Mosca, Jacobsen, Brogaard, and Partridge have already suffered injuries this young season. That, coupled with Cameron, Kettich, Vickers, Brogaard, Speckfeld, and Doornenbal all getting injuries in the last 4 weeks of last season and the Hippos clubhouse is starting to look like a hospital.

Coach Starks will have his hands full filling out lineup cards.

(22:36) Houston Settling In to New Series Houston's been making some adjustments, getting ready for III after moving up from our "Home Sweet Home" of 8 years in IV.21.

Gone are offensive middie Martin Cameron, in exchange for a bit more of a playmaking presence in Charlie Partridge. Henrik Dyholt, former wingback, has gone to play in Latvija and replaced by Croatian Jure Rašetina.

Finally, next week, before the start of the new season, long time team captain Mick Starks will become the new player-coach.
