(00:50) New Players and New Places A new generation of trainees has been trying out for the Hippos and the team has already signed one player. Houston's Ferruccio Mosca and Igno Kettich are on the transfer list as we speak.

The Hippo Friendly Tour #9 is moving across Europe. This week the Hippos will visit Divizia A pretender's. Romania is one of the "Big 4" countries who the Hippos have yet to recieve a flag from.

They also hope to visit Nederland, Belgie, and Ceska Republika soon to claim flags from all top 30 countries.

(21:50) Miquel: Retired and Honored The newly christened Hippo Hall of Heroes has its first member as coach Juan Maria Miguel joins honorary members Ricky Braden, former coach, and Edwin Phelan, star striker.

Miguel oversaw the team's ascension from IV to III. In 5 seasons in IV.21, Miguel led the Hippos to a 47-15-8 record with 4 3rd place finishes before a 1st place finish in his final season.

As a player, he was a competent central defender and set pieces ace with 13 career goals in 102 matches.

Farewell, Miguel!

(14:37) Midway Point Notes In series, after a disappointing loss to Budvar, Houston finds itself (barely) in 2nd. The team is pleased but knows there is no room for error.

The Hippo Friendly Tour 9 looks like a European jaunt with stops in Moldova, Suomi, and Srbija i Crna Gora.

Ideally, we'd love to play teams from Div I Nederland, Belgie, Romania, and Ceska republika in the coming weeks as well as others in Europe.

Two weeks from now, former coach Juan Maria Miguel will play his 100th match for the Hippos.

(03:00) Hippos End Losing Streak After a brief 2 game losing streak, Houston finds itself back in the winning column with a 5-1 victory against the Chipmunks. The win keeps the Hippos in 2nd place, 3 points behind the Misfitz.

After the tough luck cup loss last week, the Hippos will begin their 9th season of the Hippo Friendly Tour. Last season saw Houston visit 8 different Div I teams in Europe and South America.

This season begins with a trip to Moldova to take on G.Life of Divizia Naţională for their 57th flag.

(04:28) Hippo Luck Runs Out After sailing through all of season 28 on the winds of good fortune to 1st place in III.3, the Hippos got their first major taste of bad luck since last season's cup loss.

Sunday, the Jacksonville Tea Men raced out to a 4-0 lead and hung on to win 4-3. Houston only got 1 chance in the first half despite equal possession and missed a shot on a brilliant (vl) attack versus a poor (vh) defense. A 269 to 229 hatstats advantage could not overcome Jacksonville who recorded their first Div III win.

(08:31) III.3 Season 29 The Hippos have new duds, or at least initial designs for new uniforms.

Here are the Houston predictions for III.3
1. Maniacal Misfitz
2. Panther City FC
3. Houston Hippopotami
4. Chipmunks
5. FC Exile
6. GoDucks
7. Jacksonville Tea Men
8. Budvar Kings

Unlike last season, where we had different "classes" of teams, the teams this season are very close in talent. There are no free games and I wouldn't be surprised if I were horribly off.

(05:20) Happenings at the Hippodrome Some big dates coming up for the Hippos:

* May 1st, during halftime of the game against the Misfitz, Houston will raise their III.3 Season 28 banner.

* May 22nd is Hippo Supporter Day. All supporters of the Hippos will enjoy a special game in the Hippodrome executive suite as thanks for their support.

* July 3rd, the Hippos will celebrate the induction of Jose Maria Miguel into the Houston Hippopotami Hall of Heroes. He will officially retire after playing his 100th game with Houston.

(04:27) Hippos Feeling More Supportive Without much to do on the player front this offseason but with many new supporter features, Houston's front office has gone to work on the marketing side of things for the team rather than on field.

With some new supporter slots, the Hippos have added a new team in ibnsgirl's The Smacky Packers and have gone back to an old friend with vex's NE Oklahoma Sidekicks after their hiatus from supporter for part of last year. They have both supported the Hippos since last October.

(04:25) III.3 Gets a Facelift The Hippos couldn't hold up their end of the bargain and move up to II. The loss of Vickers was too much to overcome against an excellent Lake Superior Dogfight team who downed Houston 4-1 in their qualifier Sunday.

Next season will be tough with 3 new teams joining III.3. We say goodbye to Miami Redskins SC, Hooligan Camels FC, and Roasted & Toasted FC. A hearty welcome to GoDucks, Chipmunks, and the Jacksonville Tea Men.

III.3 is looking to be even tougher than last season!
