Round of 64- Pod 1

Game of the Pod
#48 Oklahoma vs. #17 St. Marys

St. Marys is known for their fierce rivalry with Gonzaga in the WCC, while Oklahoma was at one point a powerhouse in the Big 12. Who can forget Billy Tubbs, the legendary OU coach, who received a technical foul in a 1989 game against Mizzou when he grabbed the mic to address the fans and said "No matter how bad the officiating is, please don't throw things on the floor." Little known fact (to most people probably): Ed Hightower, legendary basketball official who is retiring at the end of the 2013-2014 season, is the official that t'd up ole Billy. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail in this round of 64 game.

At one point it looked like it could be over by halftime. For every bucket that Oklahoma hit, St. Marys countered with a 3 pointer, eventually building the lead up to 12. Matthew Dellavedova had the hot hand early on for St. Marys, scoring 8 of their first 21 points. Oklahoma would not back down though, scoring the last 8 points of the half to cut the halftime lead to just 3 for St. Marys.

For the first few minutes of the second half, the teams actually traded leads, but after the 12 minute media timeout, Dellavedova put the team on his shoulders again, hit back to back to back three pointers, as St. Marys got the lead back up to 11. That was all the spark they needed, even though they missed several free throws down the stretch, the lead was big enough at that point, and Oklahoma couldn't complete another comeback..
