#8 Florida State (12-1, 1-0 ACC) at Miami (9-8, 1-0 ACC)

TEAM: FSU|MIA
OVR: 91|84
OFF: 91|86
DEF: 91|83
SHT: 94|85
REB: 89|84
COA: 91|86

ACC Play begins in earnest today. We still have a couple games left without Mayer, this one is on the road but hopefully we can handle one of the weaker ACC squads with what we've got. Miami beat Boston College a couple weeks ago.

Scouting

PG Laurence McKinney – SR – 72 OVR – 85 speed/89 quickness. 82 def/70 steals. 84 hands/79 passing, all average numbers here. 85 close/66 med/68 3/84 off the dribble. 8.6 ppg/4.1 apg.

SG Lukasz Danley – SR – 80 OVR – 6'7”, actually a SF, and a big one a that. 83 speed/76 quickness. 86 defense/70 steals. 85 close/78 med/72 3/81 in traffic. Good awareness. 78 off/77 def. 11.9 ppg/5.2 rpg. Interesting matchup with a quicker, but smaller Day here.

SF Clint Blevins – SR – 82 OVR – 6'5” SF – 87 speed/80 quickness. 83 defense/71 steals. 81 close/77 med/69 3/86 in traffic. Solid awareness (79 off/74 def). Blevins averages 10.2 ppg, he doesn't look like a great offensive player or anything but he seems like a guy who can attack the rim pretty well.

PF Diego Bermudez – SR – 78 OVR – 6'9” natural PF – 83 orb/74 drb. 72 post offense/72 post def. Non-existent shot blocking(52). 93 close/90 in traffic. Incredible offensive awareness, 87. 77 def awareness, coach on the floor. 8 ppg/3.6 rpg.

C CJ Laws – FR – 76 OVR – 6'7” PF – 73 orb/74 drb. 80 post off/71 post def. 81 close/84 in traffic. Great awareness for a freshman. 77 off/79 def. His potential isn't that great, and very poor rebounding. 9.2 ppg/4.6 rpg.

Backup SF Patricio Daley is rated 80 OVR and is the second highest rated player on the team. 6 points/game off the bench.

Just not enough talent on this team really. The rebounding is awful.

Miami calls a timeout. We're not blowing them out but are playing well. Dearman and Day lead us with 5.

We call a timeout to get the backups in.

Well, the backups don't really play that well, a couple layups from turnovers and Miami only trails us by 2. I get a timeout and get the starters back in.

A 3 from Miami gives them the lead and a 6th man boost.

Day attacks the rim and draws a foul, but is injured. Porter comes in and drains the 2 free throws. Day leads us with 11 and hasn't missed a shot yet, so hopefully he gets to come back in for the second half.

HALF

Miami hits a 3 from about 35 feet at the buzzer and its 4 at the half instead of 7, which is a little frustrating. Miami shoots 16-32, 4-7 from 3. PF Bermudez takes a huge percentage of their shots, he's 6-12 and has 13 points at the half. One guy has 5 shots and no one else has more than 3.

On our end, we're shooting amazingly well. 17-25 from the field, 2-6 from 3/7-9 from the line. Day leads us with 11, Dearman has 9, Black has 6. Porter and Devonish have 4 off the bench. They're outrebounding us 14-9, which is why the game is close.

Day has a sore knee and is going to play in the second half.

6 straight for Miami, 3 different 6th man boosts, and things just have not started out well this half for us at all. I get a timeout when they take the lead.

We take the lead back, Day has 6 this half and has 17. Black is strugging badly, we get him a number of solid looks in the paint and he's missed 4 shots in a row. Day's knee has him slowed quite a bit, but he still has a good first step.

Day strokes a 3 and is really having an outstanding offensive game, he's up to 20. Timeout Miami, backups are in for us.

Miami had tied it back up at 55, we got a free throw, but Miami has the ball with a chance to go back ahead. This is going to be a common theme all year I fear, the backups are getting owned. Starters are back in, except for Black. All his early attempts in the post tired him out quite a bit, he needs more rest.

Black is back in. This looks like its going to be close to the wire.

5 straight from Miami puts us down 3, I call a timeout to kill off a 6th man boost after a 3 pointer. I've got two timeouts left.

Their PF, Bermudez, picks up his 6th(SIXTH) offensive rebound and a putback for his 22nd point. Day gets us a huge 3 point play and we tie the game up. Miami timeout.

We get a big stop inside, and Millar hits another open look after going off a screen in a set play. Miami with another timeout(I think they now have 1 left).

If it ain't broke... another huge stop in the post, and Millar with a good hook in the post on our end. He's got 14, and our last 6 straight as we lead by 4 with less than a minute left.

Day hits 2 at the line after being fouled.

Miami struggles to get a shot and misses when they finally get one off. We put it away in the end.

#8 Florida State 77
Miami 70

Day gives us an absolutely brilliant performance today, Millar is huge in the post in the final few minutes and we get a road win with our superstar injured, I would have hoped to have been able to win this one easier but I'll obviously take it. Miami PF Bermudez scores 22 points and pulls in 12 boards, shooting 10-19 and getting 7 offensive rebounds. C Laws and PG McKinney both shoot 5-7, 13 and 11 points respectively.

Modica: 6 points (2-5 from 3)
Day: 25 points (9-9 FG, 2-2 3, 5-5 FT)
Dearman: 9 points/3 boards
Millar: 16 points/ 5 boards (7-11 FG)
Black: 9 points/5 boards

Porter: 5 points

Perfection from Day, I love it.
