To defend Rachel a bit here.... Her character started off as a spoiled brat who had to figure out how to survive "living in the real world". I am an unapologetic Friends watcher. My only problem with her being on the list is that you could have selected a couple of Friends characters there. Phoebie and Joey come to mind.
I am amazed to this day how The Simpsons basically reinvented itself a couple of years in. I still remember the days when Bart was the star. "Don't have a cow man", "Eat my shorts", and "Ay Caramba" were on TV shirts everywhere.
