Bear

Bear started off the meet well, swimming good in both the Free and Medley relays (which I will cover in Brett’s write up)…but then he was going to the bathroom before his IM and he slipped. He fell flat on his butt, bruised his tailbone, jarred his back and was in real pain…

50 Free – Bear and Brett were in the same heat for this event, and they were entered with seed times of 32.08 (Bear), 32.09 (Brett)…when the race started Bear got out real good …he was running third in the heat and was ahead of Brett, but he screwed up the turn REALLY BAD, and it cost him. He finished with a 32.7 time…before the turn he was on pace to go under 32 seconds. As it turns out – of the kids going to State Bear’s 50 free time put him 14…

IM – This is the event right after the fall. Bear got on the blocks and was grimacing in pain and he was getting prepared to dive. His fly was clearly hindered by the back, and the breast was as well, but when he turned from breast to free he was still in fourth, and he closed hard in the free, but was out-touched by less than half a second. He finished with a 1:21.88, but without falling I’m sure he would have gotten third, which gives him a medal and puts him on the state team…but as is this kids luck, he ends up just outside the medals...

Fly – After the IM Bear went to the first aid clinic and they iced his back…it was hurting too bad at this point, and he scratched.
