YSSC Thanksgiving Invitational - Results

Bear

200 IM - 2:52.71DQed…Bear came into this event feeling bad. He’d struggled with a sore throat for days, including missing 2 practices (once to go to doctor to get a swap for strep, and once because he was just feeling too bad to swim). He wasn’t swimming great when he made an illegal flip turn going from back to breast. Clearly a lack of focus, and when he got out, he told us his throat was killing him and he ended up pulling a NS for the 500 Free.

500 Free - 6:20.64NS – see above.

400 IM – Didn’t make the cut of the top 48 swimmers.

200 Free Relay – By Saturday Bear was feeling much better. He ended up starting off the B relay and surprisingly…he swam the fastest split even with a cold start, posting a personal best 30.11

200 Breast – NT – Was doing extremely well in this race, but for some reason after swimming 175 yards, he saw me cheering and thought I told him to stop…so he did (ugh)…He still finished in a time that almost earned a state cut 3:18.36. (and yes I told him for at least the tenth time, after you’ve gone that far in a race, there is absolutely no reason to stop until you hit the final wall).

100 IM – 1:22.29 – Another good swim, bolstered by his improved breast 1:20.65.

100 Free - 1:10.83 – Huge improvement here. I think the strong swim in the relay really got his confidence up. Cut over 4 seconds. 1:06.52

1000 Free – as expected he didn’t swim.

200 Medley Relay – Ended up swimming back on the B relay and did a nice job swimming in the low 37s…

100 Fly – 1:26.59 – Another drop in time, and the form is getting better 1:24.14

50 Free – 31.46 – Didn’t get sub 31 in this race, fatigue most likely, but came close and his time in the relay is still a recognized personal best 31.19

200 Back – 2:45.26 –Not a good swim…very deliberate, and turns, while technically good, lacked explosion. Last race of the weekend so not completely unexpected (and he swam a bunch of races on Sunday with the deck adds listed below)…2:52.03

200 Free – 2:23.73 – Deck Entered - A good swim, but Bear didn’t like it…2:25.75

100 Back – 1:24.88 - Deck Entered – Awesome effort here. His turns were extremely strong (as commented by one of the assistant coaches I was standing with while the race was going)…really improved his time as well 1:19.79
