2008 Season – Week 1
We open our season with a mathup against last year’s division runners-up, Dodge City. They have been a run-first team for a while, but had a fairly active offseason that indicated they might be looking for more balance. I declined to go with an all-out run-stopping defensive approach – thinking that the Vigilantes might be looking to become tougher to gameplan against.
For our Chili Dogs, this is a big early season matchup – about as big as it could be. Dodge City has traditionaly been our top division rival, and if we can’t beat tem at home, it spells bad things for our season ahead. QB Hilton Boner takes the field as our starter, as we look to get off on the good foot here.

Well, the Vigilantes did indeed stick with a run-first and run-most game plan for this game, but we managed to keep them in check anyway. The defense gets high marks here for holding up very nicely, and that really made the difference. Boner was okay for the day, doing a lot of underneath work to the backs and tight end, but our run game was pretty effective behind an offensive line that gave us 8 key run blocks, unusually high for us.
No complaints here – a solid win against a serious rival, that’s the way to start off the new season.
