Gold Update
Tonight is the team banquet. We weren't going to go, but we were guilted into it by the twins coach. She said we really needed to be there. Initially we got the impression from the coach, based on her tone and insistence that one of our kids might be recognized during the festivities, and honestly it really isn’t that farfetched. Brett could easily get a mention as being the most improved on the Region team, Bailey could be mentioned for recovering from her shoulder issues to be one of the best swimmers on the Gold group, and Bear could be recognized as the best teammate, as many parents and coaches have commented about how great a sport he is, always excited for everyone else’s accomplishments even in the face of his personal struggles at the end of the season.
However, we now believe the coach just wants the kids to have the experience of being at the event. She wants the twins to get their IronMan (swam every event available for the age group) and First Year pins. Also, the team was struggling to get enough people signed up, we know because the extended the sign up deadline, and the coach may have wanted us there to put more butts in seats.
So at this point, we don’t expect much more than an overpriced mediocre meal and a considerable amount of congratulatory talk about kids I probably don’t know. Maybe it will motivate my kids to the point they will be recognized in the future (one can hope)…
