Group A
Code:
Denver Broncos 1998(21/10/9/0/21/M/-1) at Green Bay Packers 1966(14/2/10/0/26/K/1) TEAM 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q Final Denver Broncos 1998 0 3 0 7 10 Green Bay Packers 1966 6 13 17 7 43 ---------- Line: Green Bay Packers 1966 -5 (+ 28) Current Records: Denver Broncos 1998: 5-5 (5-5 in Group A play) Green Bay Packers 1966: 10-1 (10-1 in Group A play)
Wow. The Packers come back with a vengeance and crush the Broncos, leaving no doubt who is the best in Group A. Green Bay officially clinches a playoff berth with the win. They are also virtually assured of winning the group title and hosting a first-round game at Lambeau Field. Denver has a thin reed to cling to if they can sweep all their games and the Packers lose them all that they can win the group, but that's not likely to happen. Denver now has to work on staying ahead of Washington and Pittsburgh for the second berth from Group A.

Code:
New York Giants 1990(11/3/11/0/13/O/2) at Pittsburgh Steelers 1974(11/4/9/0/16/N/-2) 3: Pittsburgh Steelers 1974 goes for two and fails. 4: Pittsburgh Steelers 1974 goes for two and fails. TEAM 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q Final New York Giants 1990 7 7 7 10 31 Pittsburgh Steelers 1974 0 10 6 6 22 ---------- Line: Pittsburgh Steelers 1974 -3 (-12) *UPSET* Current Records: New York Giants 1990: 3-7 (3-7 in Group A play) Pittsburgh Steelers 1974: 4-7 (4-7 in Group A play)
*A tough loss for the Steelers that harms their playoff chances a little bit. With the Broncos at 5-5, everyone in Group A is still in contention for that last spot, even the Giants at 3-7.

Group B
Code:
CG: Green Bay Packers 1967 scores on a 23-yard touchdown run! Green Bay Packers 1967 converts the PAT. TEAM 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q CG Final St. Louis Rams 1999 10 0 10 3 0 23 Green Bay Packers 1967 0 7 0 10 7 24 ---------- Line: St. Louis Rams 1999 -3 (-4) *UPSET* Current Records: St. Louis Rams 1999: 6-4 (6-4 in Group B play) Green Bay Packers 1967: 3-8 (3-8 in Group B play)
*The Rams suffer a surprise reversal on the road at Green Bay as the Packers, outplayed for most of the game, erupt for 17 points in the final quarter, the last points coming on a Donny Anderson run from 23 yards, stealing the game from the Rams and dealing a severe blow to their chances of catching the Redskins in Group B.

Code:
Washington Redskins 1991(21/5/5/0/20/M/-1) at Pittsburgh Steelers 1975(16/1/6/0/23/L/1) 4: Washington Redskins 1991 goes for two and fails. CG: Pittsburgh Steelers 1975 reaches their own 40 yard line before turning the ball over on downs. TEAM 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q CG Final Washington Redskins 1991 3 3 10 6 0 22 Pittsburgh Steelers 1975 3 7 7 0 0 17 ---------- Line: Pittsburgh Steelers 1975 -3 (-8) *UPSET* Current Records: Washington Redskins 1991: 10-0 (10-0 in Group B play) Pittsburgh Steelers 1975: 6-5 (6-5 in Group B play)
*A hard-fought contest in Pittsburgh sees the unbeaten Redskins make just enough plays to stay perfect. Coupled with the loss by the Rams, the Redskins have a commanding four-game lead with six to play in Group B. Despite the loss, the Steelers are consoled by the fact that the Rams were upset, so they are still just a half-game behind for the second playoff berth.

Group C
Code:
Baltimore Ravens 2000(11/1/6/0/19/M/-2) at New York Jets 1968(18/10/8/0/21/M/2) TEAM 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q Final Baltimore Ravens 2000 7 0 0 0 7 New York Jets 1968 10 10 0 7 27 ---------- Line: New York Jets 1968 -2 (+ 18) Current Records: Baltimore Ravens 2000: 3-7 (3-7 in Group C play) New York Jets 1968: 4-7 (4-7 in Group C play)
*The Jets maul the Ravens with surprising ease and keep their dim playoff prospects flickering for another week. The Ravens are still clinging to life, but it's getting really difficult to say that.

Code:
Dallas Cowboys 1992(16/5/9/0/22/L/-5) at Oakland Raiders 1976(14/8/14/0/21/M/5) TEAM 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q Final Dallas Cowboys 1992 10 3 14 7 34 Oakland Raiders 1976 0 10 0 0 10 ---------- Line: Dallas Cowboys 1992 -1 (+ 23) Current Records: Dallas Cowboys 1992: 7-3 (7-3 in Group C play) Oakland Raiders 1976: 3-8 (3-8 in Group C play)
*A dominating performance by the Cowboys as they continue to firm up their grip on the second berth from Group C. Oakland, meanwhile, is hanging on by a thread. Basically, they need to win out while the Cowboys lose every game and some other things to happen.

Group D
Code:
New England Patriots 2001(12/7/8/0/12/O/0) at Kansas City Chiefs 1969(14/2/8/0/23/L/0) CG: New England Patriots 2001 turns the ball over on downs in their own end of the field. TEAM 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q CG Final New England Patriots 2001 3 0 0 0 0 3 Kansas City Chiefs 1969 3 0 7 0 0 10 ---------- Line: Kansas City Chiefs 1969 -11 (-4) Current Records: New England Patriots 2001: 2-8 (2-8 in Group D play) Kansas City Chiefs 1969: 5-6 (5-6 in Group D play)
*The Chiefs come up with a solid defensive effort to keep them in the chase for the playoffs. The Patriots, meanwhile, are virtually eliminated.

Code:
Dallas Cowboys 1993(14/5/7/0/19/M/-5) at Dallas Cowboys 1977(16/7/12/0/23/L/5) 2: Dallas Cowboys 1977 attempted to convert a field goal into a touchdown and failed. CG: Dallas Cowboys 1993 converts a 51-yard field goal attempt! CG: Dallas Cowboys 1977 attempts a 48-yard field goal, but it is blocked! TEAM 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q CG Final Dallas Cowboys 1993 0 3 0 3 3 9 Dallas Cowboys 1977 0 0 0 7 0 7 ---------- Line: Dallas Cowboys 1977 -4 (-6) *UPSET* Current Records: Dallas Cowboys 1993: 5-5 (5-5 in Group D play) Dallas Cowboys 1977: 8-3 (8-3 in Group D play)
*A defensive war between the two Cowboy franchises. A trio of Eddie Murray field goals give 1993 Dallas the lead, but it's only won after the 1993 team blocks a last-second kick by Effren Herrera. With the win by the 1993 team, the race for both berths from Group D tightens up a bit. The 1977 Cowboys still control things, but they've still got some work to do.

Group E
Code:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2002(11/1/9/0/18/N/-3) at Baltimore Colts 1970(12/9/12/0/15/O/3) CG: Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2002 fails to move the ball into field goal range. TEAM 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q CG Final Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2002 0 0 10 0 0 10 Baltimore Colts 1970 7 0 6 0 0 13 ---------- Line: Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2002 -3 (-6) *UPSET* Current Records: Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2002: 7-3 (7-3 in Group E play) Baltimore Colts 1970: 3-8 (3-8 in Group E play)
*A bad loss for the Bucs as their offense, aside from a third quarter outburst, is largely non-existent. The Colts, meanwhile, battle and scrape and cobble together enough points to pull the upset. Still, it's a longshot that the Colts would even make the playoffs at this point. Tampa Bay, meanwhile, still has a pretty good grip on second place.

Code:
San Francisco 49ers 1994(21/9/6/0/22/L/-5) at Pittsburgh Steelers 1978(13/3/11/0/24/L/5) 3: Pittsburgh Steelers 1978 goes for two on first TD and fails. 4: San Francisco 49ers 1994 goes for two and fails. CG: Pittsburgh Steelers 1978 scores on a 8-yard touchdown pass! Pittsburgh Steelers 1978 converts the PAT. OT: Pittsburgh Steelers 1978 converts a 30-yard field goal attempt! TEAM 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q CG OT Final San Francisco 49ers 1994 7 0 7 9 0 0 23 Pittsburgh Steelers 1978 3 0 13 0 7 3 26 ---------- Line: Pittsburgh Steelers 1978 -2 (+ 1) Current Records: San Francisco 49ers 1994: 3-7 (3-7 in Group E play) Pittsburgh Steelers 1978: 9-2 (9-2 in Group E play)
*Some riverboat gambling goes on from both sides and it ends up costing the Niners dearly. Instead of playing safe and forcing Pittsburgh to go for two to tie, they try to win outright and fail. The result is that Bradshaw hits Stallworth from 8 yards out and then the Steelers need just an XP to tie it up and force OT, which they make. The Steelers then take the win in OT.

(I'll have to do some investigating of the logic behind going for two because the Niners didn't have to do it because they would have been up by 8. Instead, they went for it and as a result, the Steelers could just tie it with a TD and XP.)

Group F
Code:
New England Patriots 2003(12/5/15/0/17/N/7) at Dallas Cowboys 1971(19/7/8/0/26/K/-7) TEAM 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q Final New England Patriots 2003 10 7 0 0 17 Dallas Cowboys 1971 10 3 13 7 33 ---------- Line: Dallas Cowboys 1971 -9 (+ 7) Current Records: New England Patriots 2003: 6-4 (6-4 in Group F play) Dallas Cowboys 1971: 5-5-1 (5-5-1 in Group F play)
*A thoroughly dominating performance in the second half by the Cowboys propels them to a big win. After a 4-0 start, the Patriots have dropped 4 of 6 and are now clinging to their playoff berth. Meanwhile, the Cowboys are continuing a remarkable turnaround from a 1-4-1 start and breathing down the Patriots' neck for the playoffs.

Code:
Dallas Cowboys 1995(15/8/7/0/19/M/-2) at Pittsburgh Steelers 1979(16/6/9/0/26/K/2) CG: Dallas Cowboys 1995 reaches the 27 yard line before turning the ball over on downs. TEAM 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q CG Final Dallas Cowboys 1995 0 6 0 3 0 9 Pittsburgh Steelers 1979 7 0 7 0 0 14 ---------- Line: Pittsburgh Steelers 1979 -7 (-2) Current Records: Dallas Cowboys 1995: 3-6-1 (3-6-1 in Group F play) Pittsburgh Steelers 1979: 7-4 (7-4 in Group F play)
*A slugfest at Three Rivers. The Steelers generate just enough offense while the Steel Curtain is sturdy enough to give the Steelers an important win. Pittsburgh moves into first in the group with the win. Meanwhile, the Cowboys suffer a tough loss that leaves them 2.5 games out of the playoffs. Still in it, but it's going to be tough.

Group G
Code:
New England Patriots 2004(17/6/11/0/19/M/0) at Miami Dolphins 1972(15/4/11/0/23/L/0) 4: New England Patriots 2004 goes for two and converts it! TEAM 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q Final New England Patriots 2004 0 7 10 11 28 Miami Dolphins 1972 7 14 7 14 42 ---------- Line: Miami Dolphins 1972 -4 (+ 10) Current Records: New England Patriots 2004: 7-3 (7-3 in Group G play) Miami Dolphins 1972: 5-6 (5-6 in Group G play)
*The Dolphins dominate the first half and then answer every Patriot challenge in the second half to secure a desperately needed win. They are now two back of New England for the second playoff berth.

Code:
Green Bay Packers 1996(18/4/6/0/25/K/-5) at Oakland Raiders 1980(12/9/11/0/18/N/5) TEAM 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q Final Green Bay Packers 1996 10 7 0 7 24 Oakland Raiders 1980 0 7 0 7 14 ---------- Line: Green Bay Packers 1996 -7 (+ 3) Current Records: Green Bay Packers 1996: 8-2 (8-2 in Group G play) Oakland Raiders 1980: 3-8 (3-8 in Group G play)
*A solid effort by the Packers gives them the win and first place all by themselves in Group G. For the Raiders, their slim playoff hopes are fading rapidly.

Group H
Code:
Pittsburgh Steelers 2005(14/6/6/0/14/O/-4) at Miami Dolphins 1973(14/2/10/0/22/L/4) TEAM 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q Final Pittsburgh Steelers 2005 0 7 7 0 14 Miami Dolphins 1973 3 14 10 3 30 ---------- Line: Miami Dolphins 1973 -8 (+ 8) Current Records: Pittsburgh Steelers 2005: 3-7 (3-7 in Group H play) Miami Dolphins 1973: 5-6 (5-6 in Group H play)
*The Dolphins pound on the Steelers and keep their playoff chances alive. They still are a couple of games out of a berth, though. For Pittsburgh, it's pretty much over with.

Code:
Denver Broncos 1997(19/8/5/0/23/L/-7) at San Francisco 49ers 1981(12/6/12/0/22/L/7) CG: Denver Broncos 1997 reaches the 36 yard line before turning the ball over on downs. TEAM 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q CG Final Denver Broncos 1997 0 7 7 6 0 20 San Francisco 49ers 1981 3 7 7 7 0 24 ---------- Line: Denver Broncos 1997 -1 (-5) *UPSET* Current Records: Denver Broncos 1997: 7-3 (7-3 in Group H play) San Francisco 49ers 1981: 4-7 (4-7 in Group H play)
*A bit of a surprise at Candlestick as the Niners eek out an upset of the group-leading Broncos. Denver now finds itself tied with 1989 San Francisco for first. Meanwhile, the 1981 49ers move to within 3.5 games of the playoffs, but time is running short.
