Atlantic Coast Cup Qualifying Round

Wake Forest Cougars vs Hattiesburg Rebels

We're 4:6 favorites today, as expected against a lower team. We played them twice last year, both times at homme, 3:0 and 3:1.

Attendance - 232

Starting Lineup

GK: Gyan
D: Otoo/Hernandez/Ashe/Lacey
M: Tapia/Wilkins
AM: Rose/Cooper
ST: Roth/Navarro

We play three matches in a week so I balance the roster some. We also have some players fully ready to go and some still getting into shape, so I try to balance that a bit too.

Standard mindset at home vs weaker team.

10': We get hit on a counter attack, Ashe and Hernandez look out of place as a ball is sent over them and they don't respond well, leading to an easy goal. 0-1

17': Lets attack.

17': Tapia intercepts a pass in midfield to start a break, ahead to Navarro, sent ahead to Roth, he controls it well, the keeper comes out but Roth gets it by him. 1-1

19': Long bit of possession for us after a throwin, eventually Navarro gets a pass from Wilkins and tries a shot from just inside the box, the keeper turns it behind, we can't do anything on the corner.

22': A quick attack after an interception, Cooper gets a pass in a good spot but doesn't try to score, he centers for Navarro, ahead to Rose near the 6 yard box, Rose has a clear cut chance, but saved... rebound back to him, saved again.

38': free kick from out left for them, they cross it into the 6 yard box and we don't have a single defender there, basically free header for them, goal. 1-2

39': Corner for Cooper, tapia tries to head it, it either bounces off a defender or its taken awfully and goes a bit sideways, but Charlie Ashe is there and finishes! 2-2

HALF: We outshoot them 9-4, we put a ton of pressure on once we started attacking, but the one set piece goal we allowed has it even still. Davidson is in for a very tired Rose at the half.

48': Cooper with a run down the right, cross into Navarro, he controls it well, shoots and easily scores! 3-2

57': Corner taken by Cooper, Hernandez with the header... just wide.

61': We intercept a pass pretty close to the penalty area, after a couple passes Lacey hits Navarro for a strong shot, but wide.

63': They get a counterattack and get two quick shots in a chaotic setting, but Gyan is able to stop them both. One was a clear cut chance from 18 yards out.

66': Glaser in for Wilkins.

66': Back to our comfortable counterattacking mindset with the lead.

73': Glaser ahead for Navarro, he has the ball tackled away, Cooper is there and sends it to the other side of the area, Roth on the volley, goal! 4-2

84': Brian Williams in for Tapia.

92': After we win control following a goal kick near midfield, Otoo just launches a long ball from our own half, Navarro runs under it and has great control of it, he shoots, scores!! 5-2

That's it.

Wake Forest 5 : 2 Hattiesburg

Man of the Match: Ronnie Navarro (9.3)
Goals: Navarro 2, Roth 2 (8.8), Ashe (7.7)
Assists: Cooper 3 (9.1), Navarro, Otoo (7.4)
Notables: Gyan (7.1), Lacey (7.1), Hernandez (7.1)

Tapia (6.9) and Wilkins (6.6) the only starters under 7.0. Not the best first half but we did what we needed in the second, and more.

-- We get $969 for the win.
