Sharks close to playoffs with upset over Mashers
EDMONTON, AB - The message from the Los Angeles Sharks: Don't sleep on us. The Sharks won their third-straight game with a somewhat-shocking 17-10 road victory against the high-flying Edmonton Mashers. Edmonton themselves had a three-game win streak coming into this Friday night matchup, but saw that evaporate as their offense failed to show up. The 10 points Edmonton scored matches a season-low. They lost 39-10 to New Jersey in Week 2.
With the win, the Sharks will clinch a playoff spot if San Diego beats Texas tomorrow. Los Angeles' win also means that the Golden Gate Stormers are the first team officially eliminated from playoff contention. Several Stormers were on hand at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto, CA, on Friday night to watch the L.A.-Edmonton game in their locker room. "Terrible, terrible, terrible," Stormers left wing Nate Fereday was quoted as saying.
