Texas gets big win, keep slim playoff hopes alive
AUSTIN, TX - Their chances of making the postseason are slim; in fact, their chances could disappear tomorrow. But the Texas Harlequins certainly played like they want to go to the playoffs on Friday night. Led by the play of left wing Mason Letourneau, who had a big day with two tries and several key runs, Texas (5-6) pulled away in the second half to rout the visiting Virginia Stars 40-12 at Texas Memorial Stadium in Arlington. Texas picked up precious maximum standings points thanks to six tries on the day.
"Great game," Harlequins head coach Pete Holme said. "We are not out of it yet, and if we want to be in the playoffs, we have to play like this. The team responded well tonight."
Meanwhile, Virginia (5-6) is still suffering from the effects of the "New Jersey curse." They have now lost four straight games and have fallen under .500 for the first time since Week 3.
