For those who didn't see it in the other thread, my apology for accidentally breaking the thread.
I don't know why quoting a post broke it when the original post didn't but I feel bad for fucking up the thread on the last night of the season.

I know this is a joke, but I think a win tonight lets him keep his job after next year when I think they'll look a lot like this year's Michigan team. They lose two thirds of their starters.

This is going as expected. Notre Dame doesn't have the offense to keep pace against a team like OSU, even if the defense was playing well.

Awesome play on the two point conversion.

Yeah, Freeman can coach.
If OSU loses Day will have to be gone. No way alums pay for him to be back if he chokes this away.

Final poll is out.
Tennessee 9, Ole Miss 11, Miami 18. A perfect illustration of just how utterly shitty teams were in 2024.

This is part of the transition, though. It's easier to plug-and-play on defense, so offenses look a little more clueless in games between the better teams. And the portal increases the gap between the haves and the have-nots, so there are more games (even intra-conference) where the two teams have no business being on the same field.
The game is getting faster at the college level, and there aren't many quarterbacks who can deal with both the increased speed and any type of defense designed to make reads difficult. So there's a temptation to go with run-first quarterbacks, who get hurt much more often. It's still, regardless of quarterback style, far and away the most important position on the field, and if you're not sure whether you have a good one, you don't. College football is not that satisfying a product right now and ratings are based solely on losses and schedule strength is all over the place, so we don't have a great idea of what's really going on. |

Yeah, I'm seeing way more parity than separation. Especially among the lower tier teams in the Big Ten and the SEC, that have the cash to poach the depth from the top programs. It is going to be much harder to stack four and five star players four deep for Alabama and Georgia when the second and third string can now go get starter money at Kentucky and Missouri.

Totally agree with this. I couldn’t shake the feeling last night that those teams would have been absolutely blown off the field by any of the Georgia, Alabama, Clemson teams from the last 15-20 that were loaded with 4 and 5 stars on the three deep. The level of talent won’t change, or even maybe where it goes out of HS, but increasingly rosters will be built on transfers, freshmen and players who couldn’t get more money elsewhere rather than players who have been in the systems 2+ years. That can only lead to more one year wonder teams and parity on the field. Hell, isn’t one of OSU’s key depth linemen already in the portal before the hangover kicked in from yesterday? |

It's sort of a yes and no based on converging factors. There's far more variance, season-to-season, because it is harder to keep depth. There's pressure to start players who aren't ready to start, for fear they will leave. The new timing rules have taken a couple of plays away from offenses, which would increase parity a little. The SEC didn't have a dominant program this year and Alabama, in particular, was wildly up and down. The Big Ten was a little more consistent. But both were altered fundamentally by bringing in good programs. Realignment itself brought more parity. I think scheduling variance and the difficulties quarterbacks are having against even mediocre defenses with competent coaching and personnel makes it difficult to see the haves and have nots as clearly. The good coaches are learning this transition. But I wouldn't mistake the struggles quarterbacks are having against an average defense as real parity right now. |

So did the new playoff work? The champion is #1 ranked and had to beat #2, #3, and #4 (not to mention beating #5, #9, and #10 in the season or playoffs). /Jim Mora PLAYOFFS! Voice

The team that was fourth in its conference and didn't have to play in a conference championship game was the best team in the playoffs. The second-best team in the playoffs didn't have to get beat up during the season by playing multiple games against competent teams in the two major conferences. Nor did it have to play a 13th game. Yes, it worked in many ways. A 12-team or 14-team playoff format seems like a great idea. What didn't work is conference structure and scheduling. |

I still think the same thing. The tourny did a good job of finding the winner of the tourny, but OSU lost twice and I don't think that automatically means their full season was better than Oregon.

Dola: I will take that back. The interactive stuff is much better than it was (the stuff that worked, anyway). They had one that O wish they did more with. One side was a screen with John Hiesman's old playback, and then the other had recruiting cards that had been filled out by players through the years. Those were very neat. They also had a large room that had stations to play College Football 25. It had a display with all the classic College Football games through the years.

Harbaugh's former offensive coordinator is going to be indicted today for hacking into student accounts and stealing private photos and other info. There was info from 100,000+ student athletes across the country and 2K+ victims of information theft. This isn't even connected to all of the cheating schemes yet somehow Warde Manual still has a job.
I'm amazed journalists aren't camping out in Ann Arbor and reporting on everything. It's pretty clear Harbaugh ran the filthiest program in the history of the sport on almost every level. So far there are sexual crimes, off-field cheating, destroying evidence, on-field cheating, and not everything has even been reported yet. The Uni is already getting sued by former student athletes. It's impressive the level they sank. |

I admit to being a homer here, but I think it's difficult to blame Jim Harbaugh and the University for this one. I get the vibes around Jim Harbaugh, but I don't think it fits the facts. Weiss was doing this between 2015 and 2023, and was hired at Michigan in 2022. It seems like that the University got rid of him immediately, and the reason he got found out was because they were monitoring it. It feels like you could argue John Harbaugh is more at fault because he did it longer under John, and wasn't found out, but it was under Jim that it stopped. |

I don't care about Harbaugh, he's probably already looking at a lifetime ban. It's the program and Athletic Department that was/is a mess.
The University is certainly to blame though. IT would know immediately if I tried to install Mineweeper on my work computer but Weiss had encryption software and who knows what else on his computer. He used University equipment and the University network for 2 years to target students across the country. Do you doubt that UM will be held financially responsible? The suits have already started. One Michigan writer said the some consider these types of suits as frivolous because there was only emotional damage done. It's insane. It's also not clear to me that he was immediately fired. He was busted no later than December 23rd and was coaching against TCU on 12/31. By 1/10, his house was already getting raided. He was fired later in January. |

Given the weighted pendulum for making it nearly impossible to get rid of bad employees in most state's, getting him off the books within a month feels like pretty good time. That said, letting him coach on 12/31 probably should have been avoided with a suspension pending the rest of the HR process.

Yes, that was my point. If there was enough evidence to trigger a raid on his house 10 days after the game and termination shortly after, coaching in the TCU game goes against the narrative. |

Who was collecting the evidence? If the police were in the process of obtaining a warrant I think they'd be very tight lipped with what they share with the AD or University.

Found this on the Athletic website: Next football season Coastal Carolina will be offering free food at home games-not sure how many other schools do it but thought it was a neat idea and given how Coastal struggled last season, they may need a reason to fill the seats:
