If Arreaz goes 1-4 and Ohtani gets at least 4 hits in 6AB Ohtani wins the triple crown. Arreaz would basically clinch with 2 hits.

The Mets and Braves double headers tomorrow seem ripe for shenanigans. If they split the doubleheader, both teams make the playoffs. I can’t imagine the team who falls behind in the first game is going to want to burn any of their leverage relievers.

Someone floated the idea they both just forfeit one game each, and just prepare for the WC games.

With the Diamondbacks potentially missing the playoffs at 89 wins I wanted to see who had the most wins while missing out of the wildcard since the 3 wildcard format started in 2015. The Mariners currently have the 3 highest win seasons while missing the playoffs at 90 wins ('21), 89 wins ('18), 88 wins ('23). They also missed the wildcard by a half game in 2016 with 86 wins and missed by a game this year with 85 wins.

So clearly the Mariners should just be the Pirates.

I have seen a lot of people say they are going to make some back room deal to split. These teams hate each other and would never.

Whomever wins game 1 will rest everyone they can game 2 but that doesn't guarantee a win. As a Mets fan I full well expect them to lose game 1 then lose game 2 in some crushing fashion.

Too much to lose with a formal agreement to split the games. If that comes out, there will be investigation, etc.

I agree with Lathum. Both teams will try to win game 1. The winner of game 1 will try to win game 2, but will care more about rest.

Mets go 1-2-3. Schwellenbaker (SP?) looks like John Smoltz and Tylor Megill who was in the minors most of the year takes the mound.

Welcome to life as a Mets fan

Schwellenbach shut down the Phillies a couple of times this year. He's good.

ESPN absolutely fucked up the AL playoff schedule they just showed. They switched the Royals and Tigers - had Tigers playing the Orioles and Royals playing the Astros. Not a word from any of the announcers or Buster or anything correcting it, even as Ravech walked through the schedule. WTF?

Megill gave the Mets what they needed and in typical Mets fashion they are crapping the bed. I suspect the Mets aren't going to use an high leverage relievers this game until they get back in to it.

I also suspect the Braves score 6 runs in the first inning of game 2.

I am glad I don't have a rooting interest in either of these teams or I'd have had a few heart attacks by now.

Meanwhile, I am over here trying to convince myself that the only reason the Pirates haven't fired Shelton and/or Cherington is because the season doesn't officially end until after these games today...

Man I hope so. They have to be shellshocked. Plus they have to use sale now. I know he’s a gamer but you have to wonder if he was a bit checked out.

With his velocity down over 2mph in his last start, I'm not sure if he's checked out so much as worn out tbh.

For the fans surely.

I have my doubts that the team really thought he was gonna pitch today no matter what happened.

I was watching up until the Mets lost the lead. Then I had to go into a meeting and followed from there. I think this is the first time since '86 the Mets didn't let me down.

It's insane that this team made the playoffs when at the start of June they were 11 games under .500 and looked like they'd be remembered with the Bonilla teams. From that point on they've had the best record and best run diff in baseball.
