Ping: St. Louis area
Will be in the area for the next couple days. Not sure how much evening free time I will have though. Any recommendations for what I must try to see while in town, or places to eat.
Will try to get to the arch if possible. Sadly tomorrow night would be the best chance for night free after we arrive but it sounds like there is some seriously crappy weather forecast for tomorrow so hopefully we get in on time.

Union station near the arch had a jimmy buffet restaurant where you could get alligator This was 10 years ago tho.
Zoo and science museum are nice. There's a cool grotto far to the west of st louis too. |

Pizza: IMOS (yes it's cracker thin St. Louis style - get the bacon/hamburger as they are the only place I've found that still uses the whole strip of bacon and not just bits) Get the toasted ravs (right now $0.99 with any XL pizza) and garlic cheese bread.

Imos should be Pepperoni and bacon. mmmmm. Also, get a house salad. Imos is awesome.
Ted Drewes is the best frozen custard you will eat. A St louis icon. The Hill is all about Italian food. If you wander the neighborhood you will find many Italians. Soulard is a good place also. Restaurants, bars with bands. Lacledes Landing is bars and restaurants. Used to be the hub of the nightlife in St Louis. Washington street is also a bar and restaurant area. Want to have fun? Go to the City Museum. Fantastic place. The Arch is a must see. The trams to the top broke down last week. They closed them down. Not sure if they are open. If you want Adult entertainment. Just across the river is the east side. Stay out of East St. Louis. But there are many gentlemans clubs. Pick up a Riverfront Times. It is the local independent newspaper. It has listings for everything. They are found in businesses throughout St Louis and are free. |

I just realized that the Phillies play there the next couple days. May try to get tickets tonight (or tomorrow), hopefully the plane gets in on time as I shouldn't have to miss much of the game. |

I'm sure the St. Louis people won't take kindly to this, but steer away from Imo's. It's not very good. There's better pizza places in STL.
The Hill is a great option. Tons of great Italian food. |

Stay away from Imo's! Unless you are a native of STL, it is not good. At all.
I moved to STL in 1996 and lived there for about 4 years. We ordered IMO's one of our first nights there and after it arrived and we opened it up, I called them and said that we ordered a pizza, but I'm not exactly sure what they sent us. They said that was what their pizza was.

Halladay tonight for the Phillies. Too bad Pujols is injured. I would go by Hot Shots before the game to load up on beer and cheap food. It's really close to the stadium. |

I like it.. I mean, there are better places.. but it's just one of those "St. Louis" things. People tell me there is better BBQ than Zarda in KC, but I love that place. |

Imos is only good hot. I wouldnt get it delivered. I like other pizza better, but this is St Louis style pizza and I enjoy it. Its thin crust with Provel cheese. It slides down your throat.

Yeah Imo’s definitely isn't the best pizza in the world but it is a "St. Louis" style I am sure he can get NY or Chicago style pizza anywhere.
I was going to suggest the Phillies/Cards for sure. There are a couple of cool bars right outside the stadium (Al Hraboskys and Paddy-O's on one side and Mike Shannons is the more "upscale" crowd on the other side.) that are very fun to hang out with and if you had on Phillies stuff you would probably have a good time with some back and forth with Cards fans. Also there are plenty of ticket brokers that you should be able to get a ticket for $10/$20. There always is stub hub if you are a bad negotiator. I also second the East side for adult entertainment. I have been to strip clubs in about 20 states and besides the price the quality is second only to Vegas. A cab can take you there with zero danger. If you took a rental car you may want to get more specifics before driving but the strip club area really is safe. Not really sure what other stuff you are looking to do but let me know if it restaurants, bars, or places to see and I can give you more info. |

Don't forget Hot Shots bar and grill, my Uncle Dan owns them and the one by the ballpark has good, cheap food.

Thanks for all the ideas. Left the hotel and just started walking. Saw a lot down by the river (knew it was going to be high but that was really high). Unfortunately a poorly timed service call for work cut things short. Plan on doing much more tomorrow night after the meeting.

Yes it was. Just a tiny bit of rain at the end but that actually felt great. Got to get to the arch too, didn't have time to go into it though. Very good day today. Would like to get a chance to come back and see more. |

I'll be heading into Stl. on July 4th. I have a lot of family there, and in southern Missouri. First I'm hitting Cape Girardeau on Fri, Sat, Sun, then heading north, hitting the Reds/Cards game on the 4th, then heading home.
