1976 World Cup
1976 BASEBALL WORLD CUP
In an effort to waste MORE time, I put together a Baseball World Cup which pitted the US team versus a World Team. The teams played a 16-game series with games played throughout various cities in FOOL. Just thought it'd be a fun way to assemble talent and see what we could come up with. Probably too much watching the Ryder Cup that got me thinking about this... Obviously, the US team has a TON of talent to choose from, but the World won't come as slouches I do believe. In fact, it seems the World Team comes poised with an even better pitching staff. I tried to keep the rosters realistic, while paying homage to the stars of the game who people would want to see. Here are the rosters: UNITED STATES Quote:
INTERNATIONAL Quote:
Box scores for the 16 games are attached. Naturally, the AI ran both teams and did all the hard work, all I did was select the rosters, knowing there would be guys who would be missed. That's why strange things like Mel Brooks playing short happened. Here were the results: Code:
WORLD WINS SERIES 12-6 I think if there is another one in four years, the USA will likely need to go with young horses, balanced with experienced vets looking for a swan song. Because the FOOL version of USA's dream team, just didn't have enough juice to go with it. The World seemed to say "we'll beat you any way you want us to. Close, blowout, whatever you need." Good stuff.
I actually started to work on the American team breakdowns for a potential 16 team tournament, which would feature eight American regional teams, a team from Japan, from Cuba and from Canada by themselves for sure, and various combinations of other teams for the remainder (a Europe/Africa team, a Carribean/Dominican/Puerto Rico team, a non-Japanese Asian team, a Latin America team, still haven't nailed down the fifth team, may split one of these). But I am just at the start. The American breakdown teams are more difficult because you can't sort by birth state. But I am hoping I can find the team to get rosters like this down and we can try something out like the WBC.
